Unit nationalities in practice - screenshots

Post by Lucky1 »

Although there are a few screenshots of unit nationalities already, I though I would add some as I play test. The issue of screen clutter has been raised as a possible down-side. In practice, this has not actually been a significant problem for me and I have come to like seeing the nationality flags under units. The following is a screenshot of Barbarossa. Note the Italian armour and Rumanian air etc.

Here is another screenshot, this time of India prior to Japanese DOW. I have to tease Wanderinghead about his sly revisionism. Seemingly India was in the US camp - and not part of the British Empire - at the beginning of the war. (You can see the Commonwealth colours for Oman, though.) Anyhow, you can see an Indian Infantry, along with a British militia and fighter. Garrisoning India with something other than Indian troops will now be important as a result of proposed Indian nationalist uprising (not surrender) rules.

perhaps supplies should be left out of it. Seeing the nationality of supplies doesn't do much for me.

Do you ever envisage removing supplies as part of Italian (or possibly Rumanian) surrender?

Forgive me if I missed a post about this subject - but are Indian, Canadian, Australian troops also to be treated as minor country's units - thus imposing penalties on all of them - as shown in the SC of India above? I wonder if this does not swing the pendula towards the Axis too much since A LOT of infantry, artillery typically are produced in those regions?

Only India would have a reduced national capability. I also added some population to India, so to use all of India's population would actually mean a lot of militia builds (the main reason for the population boost is insta-militia if India becomes neutral, but it also just seems to make sense).

Canada and Commonwealth (now reduced to Australia as far as unit production is concerned) would be unchanged.

Having India as a separate nation also means that Australian population can no longer be used to build units in India, and vice versa.

I'm also tempted to give France a reduced capability. With WA's low tech levels at the start of game (at or near the Neutral floor) it won't actually change things much, except that French units wouldn't contribute to Combined Arms (any unit with a penalized Land Attack will not contribute to CA). Hence, France could have some historical Armor units without throwing things out of whack (something people have brought up before) and also not be able to contribute strong units near game end. Personally I'd find this rather satisfying, just to see some armor units there.

In my game, the unit flags for Finnish, Hungarian and Romanian units do not display, although the Italians and Allied minors do.

Sounds odd. Try unchecking then rechecking the box for unit nationalities flags in the preference screen.
