Exclusive economic zones (EEZs)

Post by rneum »

Exclusive economic zones (EEZs) extend up to 200 nautical miles from a country's coast. The site globalfishingwatch dot org has reference layers for EEZs and Marine protected areas (MPAs) you can turn on. Interesting information to add context to the scenarios.

An interesting follow up and data source at marineregions dot org

"Data collection and boundaries calculations

The Maritime Boundaries version 11 are now available on the Marine Regions website. This version builds further on what was made in earlier versions, includes new treaties and corrected inconsistencies. In this new release, Marine Regions makes available all areas included in the provisions of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). These areas are Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZ), Territorial Seas (TS), Contiguous Zones (CZ), Internal Waters (IW), Archipelagic Waters (AW) and High Seas (HS). Please note that for the delineation of our EEZ, we include the archipelagic waters and the internal waters of each country. This is a deviation from the UNCLOS EEZ definition. "

They've downloads in KML format too.

Another source includes worldwideweb dot un dot org
Then you look in the folder slash Depts slash los stash LEGISLATIONANDTREATIES slash regionslist dot (hyper text markup extension)

I love the URL blocking rules!
