[NON-ISSUE] RGM-109E Blk IV TACTOM - BOL launch

Post by AlexGGGG »

Is it correct that

RGM-109E Block IV TACTOM
RGM-109C Block III TLAM-C

are not BOL-capable?

I wanted to use them as decoys, but I don't seem to be able to launch them into general direction of the target?

I am using build 746 with the DB that came with it.

As these are basically Land Attack missiles where targets would generally be known, I wouldn't think that they would need that ability.
And the missile cost as a decoy ...[;)].

Well, missile cost as a decoy is kinda cheaper than that of aircraft plus pilot as a decoy.

I actually found it good tactic to make radars go active (so I can do ELINT), by sending single missile, or to increase SAM saturation by sending an appropriate salvo, timed to arrive simultaneously with SEAD package. This time however, I wanted some recon by sending TACTOM over sea in a programmed search pattern, see where it gets shot down. At the time, there were no discovered enemy units anywhere on the map, so missile failed to launch.

Nobody is going to use a half million or million dollar missile (depending on era) as a decoy[:)] We'll take a look though and see if the BOL capability exists. Soon you'll be get a major update to missile logic anyways.

Yeah, I kind of suspected I'm crazy commander. However, while I'm not specialist in missiles, I find it hard to imagine that a missile which can get orders in-flight, and adjust its path while in flight, cannot accept a launch order for just a designated coordinates.

Decoy etc is crazy, but in reality, the US navy does prepare to make Tactomahawk a stand-in electronic warfare device. That means, the Tactomahawk will be equipped with an ESM sensor and once gets into enemy's defence zone, it will gather enemy's emission information and send back to the command. For decoy, what you are seeking may be ADM-160C.

The TACTOM can be re-directed in flight since it has a datalink, and you should be able to achieve what you're trying to do if you fire it normally and then re-plot the flightplan after launch. When you're done playing with this terribly expensive toy, simply cancel the flightplan and it will head towards the target.
