"Unhandled exception has occured in your application."

Post by bluesrocks »

Hello,

just bought the game via steam. Try to run it on Win11. When I try to Login to a PBEM game or try to save a PBEM game, after entering a password, the error message mentioned in the subject is shown and I am invited to quit the game. Re-install doesn't work. The rest of the program is functioning okay.

I had the same problem. Plus I had the wrong German flags (similar to the French one) on the map again, which were already patched out....

Thought it was maybe my mistake. I installed the Steam version (in another directory) before uninstalling the original version from Matrix/Slitherine.

However, those bugs let me quickly deinstall both versions and reinstall the original version. Now it's working fine again. Maybe something's wrong with the Steam release??

Which version and is there an error message and were you able to copy/paste into .txt?

I am playing with the latest version 1.01.03. The error message poping up is this:

Maybe the steam version is really damaged? As I mentioned this always happens when I press the Login button trying to start a PBEM game.

From the first look, it does seem to be a Steam issue indeed.

Hi,

I am on it as publisher needs to remove some files from the steam installer.

Workaround for now is going to the install directory on steam (right click in library > properties > local files > browse) and delete the placeholder file in the mods directory.

Best wishes,
Vic

Thanks, Vic, for your kind help. [&o]

For me it works out with deleting all placeholder files in some subdirectories. There are more than one.

All the best,

Got this same exception and I have the Matrix version, no Steam. Everything was fine until I uploaded the new beta 1.01.04.

This only occurs when I select the "Cards" tab and then the Unhandled exception comes up, choosing the "continue" option results in a complete lockup.

Anyone else seeing this?

Is this with a specific save game? If so please mail it to vic@vrdesigns.net with a link to this thread.

If not... is it a specific scenario on the first round?

Please provide this further information for me to try to reproduce the bug.

Hi Vic, thanks for the timely reply.

This was an ongoing scenario, I think turn 17, and the error occurred after loading the .04 beta. Was fine before. I tried various other scenarios I had saved and a couple of initiated ones, WonR and Plan Martin with the same result.

That "Cards" tab shut me down everytime.

Went ahead and uninstalled game, and got to .03 patch, trying WonR scenario after each patch and reinstall with no encountered problems.

So, I'm at the point of instituting the .04 beta and getting ready to start Plan Martin, wish me luck!

Sorry, I don't have any saves to send you, my impatience but I'll report back.

I see vege1 got the same exception. I haven't made it to turn 2 but I've had no problems running through Plan Martin for the moment.

Tried most of the features and mechanics without the exception so I'm hoping the reinstall did the trick but the report from vege1 is most disconcerting!

Oops, spoke too soon. Still on turn 1 but after exiting the game and then going back in and reloading the turn, the exception has showed its awful head. "Vic, we have a problem". ;)

The exception is a general one. It might cover another problem. Best to post in a different thread, with the exact problem, and a paste of the error message text.
