Thinking about getting this

Decisive Campaigns: Ardennes Offensive is the fourth wargame in the Decisive Campaign series. Covering the battles in the Ardennes between December 1944 and January 1945, it brings to life Operational wargaming by lowering the scale to just above tactical level.

Thinking about getting this

Post by mikek1357 »

Hi everyone,

I might want to buy this game.

How difficult is this game and how long does a campaign take on average?

Thank you.

Can't speak to the larger campaigns, but the shorter ones are very well done. imho
The strategic depth is impressive & the game does offer the options (via the Editors) to create new ones & tweak existing ones.
You can create/edit Troop Type, Historical Units, Officers, & Maps.
Per difficulty, I am able to compete on Normal...& I am no wiz. :) There are 3 harder settings for those that are...no Easy setting, however.
Might I suggest watching a few YouTube videos which have much to offer...my route before purchasing, generally.
Btw, if multiplayer is something you are interested in, it offers file transfers via email or some other method &...off-line 'hotseat!

The DC Games are all fantastic. Ardennes is the newest, and it is a must-play for traditional wargaming fans. The scale is smaller than previous titles and allows for a lot of tactical decisions. It was easy to learn for me, I have played the prior games, but the change in scale made me have to learn new rules and aspects of movement. Now that there are very high quality tutorials and playthroughs online, it should be no problem for you to learn the rules. As for how long it takes, I don't know how you would quantify that. I've played multiple PBEM fights on both sides of all but the most recent scenario, but I've never timed how long I take per turn. You can put lots of time into managing units and supply, planning routes, assigning support. If you like wargames, you'll love the time you spend studying your maps.

I am a long time board gamer and the Decisive Campaign games look interesting, a mix of computer and board. Currently I am playing War Plan by PBEM which we are very impressed with.
I don't play single player because it is always more challenging and fun to play multiplayer. How would you compare this to their earlier game, Barbarossa other than the difference is scale. Have additional features been added to Ardennes? Thanks.

Off the the top of my head as far as new features. Line of sight, height levels, ranged fire, intercept fire. With the changes in scale and adding LOS, recon is really important. I recommend reading the manual, which is available to download a little higher in the forum.
