Soviets In Austria (Aug-41) WTH?

Post by DeletedUser44 »

Please tell me this isn't what it appears.

But a Soviet Unit, materializing next to Vienna? Seriously?

If that's your game please provide saves.
And why is that not under Tech support?

Can you provide any additional info? What scenario is this. Is this an AI unit? Do you have a before save and if so does it repeat?

I will provide saves.

Why is not under Tech support?

- Because more times than not, I am not even sure of a bug or if it is WOD.
(no sarcasm, just a fact)

- You guys also have super-powers and can easily move things you deem appropriate, which I am perfectly OK with.

- Given previous 2, why do you even care other than it requires you to hit an extra button? Or you would prefer issues to stay buried in another forum? I would be happy players are making the effort to report issues.

This is turn 11, of the "GC - no early end" scenario.

I just noticed this issue just minutes ago. I have not had a chance to load previous turn or anything to investigate.

I have plenty of saves, I just need to organize and move to a shared folder and make available to you guys.

-----

Also:
- this is playing the most recent Beta patch.
- and I have not modded the game or any of the Data files, other than using non default fonts, via GuiFonts.json.

Here is a link ( https://1drv.ms/u/s!ApomLrihV-7hgcgKgdB ... w?e=N6GbTp ) to the shared folder containing:

- QuickSave.sav (save of the immediate issue)
- Save turn 011 8-31-1941 Ax.sav
- Save turn 010 8-24-1941 So.sav
- Save turn 010 8-24-1941 Ax.sav
- Save turn 009 8-17-1941 So.sav

------

EDIT (added previous two turns of save game files - have not looked at them on my end)

I also created a subdirectory under the shared folder named "Logs".

Not sure if it requires an explicit share or not.

However, I added all the logs of current turn. (I have not looked or reviewed them yet, just throwing them in real quick just in case you need...)

Update:

Turned off FOW, reloaded quick save.

It is a 1=3 Mech Soviet Infantry. The 218th Mechanized Division (to be more exact)

I am wondering if something screwy happened in a previous turn's combat retreat result?

Loaded Axis Turn 10, don't see the unit running around behind my lines anywhere.

Loaded Axis Turn 11 - The unit is there as well.

Found it.

The 218th Mechanized Division was located at (224, 177) on Turn 10.

I can see where I moved the German 125th Infantry Division to (225, 177). But I don't remember attacking the 218th though.

(just on location of units, I don't see a need for me attacking it. Would not have helped in envelopment or taking a specific objective. That is the basis of no memory of attacking it.)

Sounds more like an issue with the AI line formation routines? (just guessing...)

I think it is reproducible. When I load the previous Soviet turn, it immediately goes into their Air Planning and their AI movement after that.

When completed, it brings to the beginning of Germany's Turn 11 (Air Planning). The unit is next to Vienna at the conclusion of re-running the Soviet turn 10.

Unfortunately, I cannot scroll the map to the Vienna area when loading the Soviet's turn - to see if it existed at beginning of turn or not.

Good news (in a way) as I was able to get it to repeat from your Soviet turn 10 save. It's the Soviet 218th Mech Division that looks ok at the start of the Soviet turn and beams west. I've sent it to Gary and hope it will repeat for him in the debugger, in which case it should be relatively easy to fix. Thanks for the saves.

Excellent news!

I sincerely appreciate your feedback and very glad you were able to reproduce it.

Gary found the offending routine and was able to add in a fix. It's an AI routine that hasn't changed in 6 months to a year (or more), so there's no telling why it happened in your game and hasn't been reported by anyone else. It won't be in the 1.02.11 version that I expect will be released tomorrow, but will be in the next version after that.

Have the same problem. Noticed it on turn 11 and moved some Hungarian troops there. However, I see the 213 Mechanised, 483, 431 and 139 Divisions in the same area.

BTW I'm updated to 1.02.11

Was this game started with 1.02.11 as well? Please upload a save file so that we can investigate.

We haven't released the fix we just put in for this late last week. It would be good if you can upload a save at the start of the AI phase when the units move into the rear (and let me know where to look). You can either zip up the save file and upload it by clicking on the "Click to upload!" text in the bottom left of the Reply to Message window, or you can email the save to 2by3@2by3games.com. If you email the save, please note that here so I know to go look for it. Thanks. It would be good for us to test out our fix on your save. I assume that an update will be going out within the next week or so with this fix. It's possible once we have an exe for this ready to release, I'll post a hotfix here so those that have gotten the bug can rerun from their saves and continue their games. The offending AI code hasn't changed in 6 months to a year, so it's probably rare, unless some other change had an unexpected impact on this code.

hmmm... very interesting.

About the only thing that seemed plausible pointed to something in the AI.

Important thing is that Gary was able to identify and implement a fix for it.
