Modding the Galaxy Sizes

Post by eddieballgame »

Would like to allow for 300, 500, & 700 Star Systems to be generated in the larger sectors.
They are currently disabled...why?

Possibly due to jump ranges not being able to reach stars in order to travel since the distances between stars would happen to be far greater with larger galaxies.

This is the reason given, but I don't think it holds much water - let us generate a cluster galaxy at that size and see for ourselves if it's impossibly difficult or not. Within a few tech levels there is no problem bridging large gaps.

Well, the problem with the devs unlocking it, if they feel it's not a viable option, is that a lot of more casual players will then select it. They'll then have a horrible experience, post a negative review, and ditch the game.

Some games resolve this by have a dev mode. Eg a setting you have to enable via command line or toggle with a huge red box warning around it - this is outside the supported bounds use at your own risk.

Another way would be to make the galaxy settings moddable - modding is supported, but obviously a mod that breaks the game is not not.

Yeah, a dev mode seems like a good solution.

yes, for me only a warning would suffice.

I also created the biggest sector with maximum stars one the one pc that can hande it (the game says that), and played it then on the pc where this setting was not allowed.
and it worked. And I let the game play itself for 16hours on time 4x, saved then and played the game at the pc that was "un"able to handle that.

What this pc was not able to handle that good, was an old empire with a smaller sector but many many ships and a to 2/3 owned galaxy with hundreds of ships.
Then the ships did move with a measurable longer stop between the moves.
You know, those small jumps that even in the beginning of the game are observable when ships move (mainly in hyperjump).

So, to make it short: again no reason to let us not try that.

For me it would be a great game setting:
- not being able to reach far stars.
- locations that evolve for themselfes before other star faring empires are able to disturb that bubble.

Yes, also good options/suggestions, imho. :D

But I also have another one: Just let us access and edit/mod the GameStartSettings-file ! ;)

Yes, and don't forget about the modding-manual and the tutorial-videos (for Stride3D) in the manual-folders of the game (in case you didn't know yet). ;)
