What is your SOP setting?

Post by Tcao »

for me

Most of the combat units (including AA units):
Max range (may change to a short range if I need an ambush)
Never Relocate
Standoff hex 0
Avoid NBC
Disembark 0 hex away from destination
Dismount 1 hex away from enemy
*
• Note: if it is a SPSAM plt moving on a jeep/BMP I will change it to dismount 10 hex away from enemy. So just in case they are moving on the road and a helo suddenly pop up into the SAM range, they will dismount and engage the enemy Helo
• West German’s M113 plt will be dismount 4 hex away from enemy. WG’s M113 plt relies on the three MILAN ATGM units in the platoon, so I hope the ATGM team will be in a deploy mode and engage the enemy when they are in the Milan’s range

Arty and mortar:
If it is a long range arty that don’t have to worry about enemy retaliation fire:
Max Range
Standoff hex 10
Relocate when taking fire or enemy spotted

Otherwise
Relocate after each fire mission

Recon units and units in charge of arty spotting
Hold fire until been fired upon / or even Never
Standoff hex and relocate are depending on the situation, but I usually prefer to set this as 0, never relocate.

I don't even use the same SOP for the same unit type consistently. It will depend heavily on what I need the unit to do, the enemy, and the landscape. Standoff 0 is typically reserved for infantry and recon in select circumstances though. Tanks generally prefer to be out of range of light AT weapons that infantry usually carries and most things like AA or HQ units have no business in a firefight.

I also don't have a standard sop setting. I've now gone to tuning the sop at every mission order. This does take longer but ensures that the units are more likely to do what I want. Too often I have found that units have a setting that does not fit the mission even if you set a standard one at the beginning of he scenario.
