Looking for decent combat rules for boardgame in WW2

Post by Rising-Sun »

Got a few games, some were old and new and wasnt too impress with the ground rules during engagements. Havent gotten into Air or Naval just yet and looking for a decent rules how combat on the ground are carried out. I know there are some pc games out there, but still doesnt give me enough details or set it up and then final reports.

Does anyone out there have any good infos to share? Note this is for table top Pacific War Campaign i got setup here. I got lock n' load Heroes of the Pacific, just wasnt enough to fill in the gap. But the ground combat chart, is pretty impressive, but take too long to figure out the details. So looking at something that is above squad level, but not as big as brigade/division scales. The map scale is rather small, probably suggest i should use the squad rules instead.

I can make my own counters, charts, etc. Just need to find a good combat results to figure this thing out.

I dont know if this helps, but I liked Avanced Tabruk System ATS, I used ASL for years and when I went to ATS it really cut the Rules work and it has all WW2 units you could wish for. I find Lock N Load more Movie like than ATS, not saying thats bad thing, but I really liked ATS ,

Been testing out John Tiller's Campaign Series (PC), its not bad, but unfort it doesnt give me any after combat reports. IE which squads, equipment, and officers been destroyed or else. Its old simulation wargame and was hoping he (John Tiller) would make another or upgrade this one, but sadly he just passed away :(

While playing with google, manage to hop in boardgamegeek.com, checking out Advanced Squad Leader and has screenshots and details about that game. Wasnt sure if worth getting it, if anyone in here every played it. Going to see if i can find what you are talking about (Avanced Tabruk System). Btw that lock n load would help me greatly, but its a money pit getting all that modules on steam and using the boardgame rule sets, i find it pretty complex and probably even more complex for ASL or even ATS as well.

Guess i need to practice alot and get a hang of it.

Alright, i got LocknLoad Heroes of the Pacific and Advanced Squad Leader Kit#4 and been working on something new ground combat results for the new Pacific War by Mark Herman by GMT Games. Its seem much better than previous old Pacific War board game.

With this folding map boards, really much better lay out than papers from the older version.

Now i can make custom counters and once i finish up this ground charts, maps and counters then move on to Naval and finally Air.

For the campaign series, one of the drop down menus (Strength I believe ) will list all the lost sp’s for all the equipment of both sides. It won’t tell you what platoon they were in although that would be pretty easy to figure out if you neede too.
