Actually it turns out "tolerated" gear will be actively replaced if allowed gear of the same type is available, which is exactly what I wanted. It appears to be rather slow, so probably doesn't strain logistics much.

Also keep in mind you don't choose the category you discover things in, so you may want to hold off on researching more until you discover important techs so you have less chance to go without them for s long time.

His machine hung up a few times probably. I know mine doesn't run at 100% speed 100% of the time and it is quite capable of running the game.
