Submarine shows emissions when dived deeper than periscope depth

Post by Quark73 »

As example "The Enemy Below" scenario. Electromagnetic emissions are shown, even if Submarine dived deeper than periscope depth, when ship is within sonar range respectably active contact.

Re: Submarine detects emissions when dived deeper than periscope depth

I double checked to make sure the orange ship had radar on...it did. I am not getting any radar detection. I think radar listing is a legacy from previous emissions detected and has been left active in the UI as long as the ship is detected by anything on the sub. Its currently being detected through sonar and that's causing the label for radars to still show up.

Its actually a little weirder than that. Did a couple more tests. If I shut the radars off, the sub loses the ship completely. Turn the ship's radars on and it doesn't detect it again. Again though, I don't think its actually detecting the radar, the label is just stuck on. The EMS sensor never shows up in the ships detection list in the unit menu.

Adding in a pic that shows the only detection is actually through the sonar:

So it's a bug, isn't it?

When I load the .save with 1328.14 and start it, the EW emissions SKR Rastoropnyy are displayed and refreshed even the submarine is at 132 ft depth. Which IMHO should not work.
I have all contact emissions switched on, of course.

My guess: Once player side get ESM detection, keeping detection by other sensors will unintentionally share ESM contact from one-sided friendly side.

There is PB4Y-2 (VP-19 #1) amid NK torpedo boats at southwest. This aircraft dectects Soviet fleet with ESM.

Side posture from USN (submarine) to United States (aircraft) is one-sided friendly, while from United States to USN is neutral.
So normally, contact info from aircraft will not be shared with submarine.

Exception happens here however. First, drop all contact of Soviet ships, and regain surface contacts with sonar at below periscope depth (as ships will attack submarine, it's good to set Soviets awaness level as blind).
At this point, there is no ESM detection.

Next, get ESM detection by eiter method.
-Set from United States to USN posture as friendly and share contact info
-Make submarine depth above 66ft and use ESM mast

After you get ESM detection, set posture as neutral or dive below PD. This will prevent fruther ESM detections by USN side.

Then, keeping sonar detection of some Soviet ship, and here is result:

Note that only sonar-detected contacts (without timer) have "detected emissions".

Setting from USN to United States posture as neutral will prevent ESM detection.

LOL I've never noticed these, since I tend to play campaigns in normal mode, at least until I get too frustrated.
