Quick questions thread
I've played a few hours now and I didn't see a similar thread so I figured I would make one.
Please ask and answer questions on how things work here.
I will start with a question on fuel tankers; Is there any method of refueling fleet swith tankers besides full automation on fuel tankers and manually clicking on each ship, waiting until it's filled, and clicking the next one? I put a tanker in a fleet with low fuel and it didn't seem to do anything at all, and there is no "refuel fleet" command.

Re: Quick questions thread
Someone else said you have to set the Tankers to automatic.
While in a fleet, the tanker apparently ignores Fleet Orders entirely - including move and retrofit ones.

Re: Quick questions thread
I can confirm it now:
1. Add the Tanker to the fleet
2. Set tanker to automatic
It will now refuel ships, restore it's tanks, mine and follow the ship automatically.
As they do not receive the orders send to the fleet, they will stay on automatic 24/7/360

Re: Quick questions thread
Is there a way to queue orders for a ship/fleet?
And is there an easier way to keep track of if you have idle ships than having to constantly cycle back and forth between the exploration, construction, and fleet menus?
Am finding the game doesn't seem to offer many choices with auto settings on, but seems like a huge amount of micromanagement to turn the auto settings off even just for exploration & construction ships.

Re: Quick questions thread
No to Order Queues at release. And even in DW1 it was lackluser, with one extra order. Personally I am expecting orders of System scope to be more important then order Queues.archie.woodrow@hotmail.co.uk wrote: ↑Sun Mar 13, 2022 5:17 am Is there a way to queue orders for a ship/fleet?

Nothing for Idle ships I know off.
DW has realy strong automation - but it also relies on strong automation to remove the tedium.

Is it possible to run it in borderless windowed mode?

I swear I saw on some gameplay or review that shows it's possible to incorporate other empires peacefully into your own through diplomacy, espionage, or something like that. However, I can't seem to find anything about it in the galactopedia or in the diplomatic options between empires. Did I imagine this? (Or more likley, confusing it with another 4x game)

Re: Quick questions thread
Is there a way to auto-accept but disable notifications independent colonies wanting to join your empire? Made the mistake of playing on the largest size galazy with max number of independent colonies, and lategame im just being spammed by these notifications. Even repeated ones from colonies outside my colonisation range.
You might be thinking of the above - that you can peacefully integrate independent colonies. I'm not aware that it's possible to do the same with full-fledged empires though.broadway248 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 13, 2022 8:40 pm I swear I saw on some gameplay or review that shows it's possible to incorporate other empires peacefully into your own through diplomacy, espionage, or something like that. Yeah, I've got colonisation set to fully automated - and if I ignore them it auto-accepts them, but I still get spammed with notifications. It's so many that it makes the game quite hard to play - other notifications get shunted out of the way before I have a chance to look at them. Even when I have the game paused I get a constant cavalcade of new notifications from them. Tbh the whole way notifications work in the late game probably needs looking at. Isn't ideal atm.zgrssd wrote: ↑Mon Mar 14, 2022 7:52 pmI think that is the colonisation suggestion system.archie.woodrow@hotmail.co.uk wrote: ↑Mon Mar 14, 2022 7:44 pm Is there a way to auto-accept but disable notifications independent colonies wanting to join your empire? You can filter messages by clicking on the message log button then click to expand the filtered messages options. I don't know why they hid it away like they have but that lets you select what you get spammed about.archie.woodrow@hotmail.co.uk wrote: ↑Mon Mar 14, 2022 10:00 pmYeah, I've got colonisation set to fully automated - and if I ignore them it auto-accepts them, but I still get spammed with notifications. Ohhh. That's really handy. Although I'm not sure whether independent colony join requests falls under colonies or diplomacy - and not sure i want to disable the other notifications from either category!ramnblam wrote: ↑Tue Mar 15, 2022 2:53 amYou can filter messages by clicking on the message log button then click to expand the filtered messages options. That was one of the first things I tried. There was a indicator for "expands".
I guess it was asumed to obvious/intuitive?
Re: Quick questions thread
Any advantage of actually using resource scanners? My explorers seem to be doing the full job anyway with their survey modules

Re: Quick questions thread
I think they are supposed to use the Scanner first, only using the Survey Module if they find something worthwhile.
Of course the question is how well that works in practice right now.

I can't seem to find higher level hyper jump technology. I checked this thread on github and saw that I don't have "children" I'm supposed to have after "Enhanced HyperDrives", namely Accelerated Hyperjump and Hyper Slipstreaming slso I can research Advanced Hyperdrives.

Re: Quick questions thread
Without the resource scanner exploration ships will need to scan each and every asteroid in a system individually, instead of in an AoE. This will basically make automated exploration near impossible as they'll bog themselves down in every system which has any asteroids. Especially bad when you start in a home system with asteroids, and aren't aware of the resource scanner. Honestly this is a gameplay issue with asteroids starting in home systems, there's no way to quickly scan for the resources you need, and without order queues you can't really do so manually. Hopefully they adjust automated explorer's priority in finding targets to save asteroids for last in the future if they're without a resource scanner.

Aahh, I see. So it is a systemwide(so to speak) scanning thing. While survey module is the literal, as it is animated, sending survey teams down to a planet.

Re: Quick questions thread
I'm assuming you're using the random tech tree option in your game setup, in which case this is just RNG at work. In addition to shuffling the tech tree around, "random" makes it so that certain techs are unavailable. If you have tech trading disabled then I believe you will be unable to access any missing techs during that playthrough, since tech stealing only allows you to steal techs that appear in your own tech tree.broadway248 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 15, 2022 9:38 pm I can't seem to find higher level hyper jump technology. The issue is that you no longer have a link to the previous tech, but you have a link to something else in the tree. Which you do not have. And you need at least 1 link to reveal it.
With my unique weapons techs I usually had links other weapons (Graviton weapons for Boskara Torpedoes).
While I remember the Planetary Defense Troops being linked to Planetary Missiles and Guns.
