Distant Worlds Gets an Important Update!

Post by SeanD »

The highly anticipated 4X “Living Galaxy” Sci-Fi strategy game gets some quick post-release fixes to fine-tune the economy and improve stability

Matrix Games and CodeForce (www.codeforce.co.nz) are pleased to announce an important and quick post-release update for Distant Worlds! This new v1.0.2 update resolves all critical and a few serious issues that were discovered after last week’s release, including a resource distribution issue that could cause negative cash flow in the economy as well as several different bugs that could cause crashes on some system configurations. For the best play experience, Matrix Games strongly recommends that all owners of Distant Worlds upgrade to v1.0.2, which works fine with previous saved games.

With Distant Worlds, gamers can experience a “living galaxy” with endless options and replayability, command vast empires that span many star system and engage in research, diplomacy, ship design, espionage, trade, combat and more! Be sure to check out the long list of promo videos available for Distant Worlds in addition to the three new screenshots of a few of the beautifully detailed alien races found in the game!

David Heath, Director of Operations at Matrix Games, said “Distant Worlds has us all extremely excited and the fan base for this release is growing by leaps and bounds every day. After a few more issues than we expected showed up after release, we here at Matrix and CodeForce burned the midnight oil and worked through the weekend to bring customers an update as quickly as possible. We’re thrilled to see more gamers get their hands on Distant Worlds and start conquering the galaxy!”

Distant Worlds is a vast, pausable real-time, 4X space strategy game. You can run the game as slow or as fast as you like, with intelligent advisors and many different settings for warnings and auto-pause triggers to help you manage your empire at your own pace. Experience the full depth and detail of large turn-based strategy games, but with the simplicity and ease of real-time, and on the scale of a massively-multiplayer online game.

Vast galaxies are made to order: up to 1400 star systems, with up to 50,000 planets, moons and asteroids. Galaxies are so deep, fun and immersive that you won’t want to finish the game... Build, expand and improve your empire endlessly. The galaxy is packed with life and activity. Encounter other empires, independent alien colonies, traders, pirates and space monsters. Explore star systems, asteroid fields, gas clouds, supernovae, galactic storms and black holes. Discover evidence of civilizations long since past, uncovering secrets about the galaxy's troubled history...

Best of all, you can play the game your way: enjoy a quick, intense game in a crowded galaxy or take your time in an epic game spread across a vast galaxy!

Do i need to update to this official 1.02 if i have downloaded 1.02 beta? I mean were there any last-minute changes that are present in this update and were not included in beta?

From what was said on the forum before, I believe they're identical except for the readme.

Thank you, thank you for making this update available via download! [8D]

I had feared that updates would be delivered only via the online update feature in the DW game menu app. My gaming machine isn't internet-connected, though.

That was a quick patch. Well done for the level of support, especially when compared to the larger companies out there who can take MONTHS to even make their game playable. (Creative Assembly, I am looking at you!)
The surest sign of intelligent life in this universe is that none of it has tried to contact us.

I would update to the official patch. Just in case the next patch runs off the offical patch better than the beta patch. It only take 2 minutes or so. I wouldn't chance it by not updating to official. I was thinking like the OP but thought why take a chance. There is a reason we have official patches.

Any chance we won't have to keep entering our serial key for future patches?

Well it prevents people from pirating the game. What is the big deal about it? I like this over the other ways, companies try and fail to prevent piracy. At least this way, if you pirate the game, you can't update it.

Davor, I agree. Matrix and Codeforce really deserve the money for this game!

Sorry to disappoint you Davor, but the patches for popular Matrix Games titles are pirated with great ease. The 1.02 patch is already out there, either cracked or with a working serial included. The only reason this publisher is so under-represented on the filesharing circuits is its relative obscurity, with only one of the release groups even bothering with these games. The less popular and successful the game, the harder it is to find an up-to-date copy, though.

Not wanting to get this too much off-topic, though. A great update, and very quick. I can finally keep playing past the first couple of ingame years.
