Some questions

Post by Historiker »

1. Does the pilot training benefit from sending exports into the schools? IIRC JWE said this wasn't implemented, yet.
2. For which assistance classes (AG, AR, etc.) is the cargo space significant? I know AKE/AE, of course AO. But what about AD, AR, AGP, AS, AV?
Without any doubt: I am the spawn of evil - and the Bavarian Beer Monster (BBM)!

1. The Elf (who is Air Team Lead) said it does.

IIRC, it helps your pilots reach their "graduating" skill levels faster and if they are coming out lower level than national exp level, also make their exp level higher when coming out from training system (but not over the nominal national exp level).

You need quite a few of >80 pilots in Training Command to that to be effective...michaelm said batches of 10 work better. I have now 6 aces in Training Command for US Army, but my average pilot exp out of training still has dropped from 30 -> 27. They do seem to come out bit faster, though. With 6k of reserve pilots, I do not really need that in June 42. Seems bit marginal for Allies.

For Japan, it might prove quite good in late war.

AD, AGP, AE and AS classes all need supplies on board in order to rearm their respective types of ships.

Wasn't me Torsten. I don't know anything about the air code. Sardaukar's probably right; michaelm is the coder and if anybody knows, he does. Ciao. [:)]

Those posts were made in beta testing phase, way pre-release, I think it was Yamato Hugger. The Elf & michaelm made quite definitive posts that it works. If it doesn't, then it's a bug and should be reported.

AE is getting sort of "urban legends" already..."need to restart your game after patch" is the another classic. [8D]

How can I see it in the game what benefit I have? I've put every pilot over 80 into the training and didn't see any difference in pilot replacement.

I don't think you can..if you are doing OK. I have noticed slight increase in pilots added monthly. I think Training Command has very little effect until you run into "dire straits" and run out of normal pilot pool. Thus, we need to get into late war before making any observations.

Yes, indeed they do. And the amount of supply is significant as well. Two things happen:

1) Threshold check – does the tender have on-board supply > or = to the Rearm Cost of the ‘biggest’ weapon? If yes, then rearm all weaps including the ‘biggie’, if no, then ‘next biggest’ weapon, and so on. If you don’t have enuf to rearm the ‘biggie’, you can still rearm all other weapons that pass the threshold test.

2) Rearm weapons that pass the threshold test – then calculate the supply used to perform the rearm, then subtract the calculated supply from the tender’s cargo.

3) For the ‘next’ ship that needs rearm, there is a threshold check against the tender’s “new” on-board supply.

btw, love 'urban legends', they give me the giggles. [;)]

Where can I see what size is needed? I don't find it in the manual.

It's in the Rearm Table, down in Section 20 somewhere. The rearm cost for the weapon is the threshold that you check against either a port+NavSup or an appropriate tender.

If you are trying to rearm a US BB, a 16" costs 5400, so you need either the right size port+NavSup, or an AE/AKE with 5400 (or more) 'cargo'.

If you are trying to rearm a US DD, a typical torp costs 1650, so you need either the right size port+NavSup, or an AD/AE/AKE with 1650 (or more) 'cargo'.

If you are trying to rearm a US sub, a typical torp costs 1650, so you need either the right size port+NavSup, or an AS with 1650 (or more) 'cargo'.

etc ...

How much supply will be used to rearm the ship? The whol load? Will rearming the 40cm guns really cost 4500 supply?

Jeez Louize, Torsten. Alright … alright … I’ll tuck you in bed and read you a bedtime story.

Once upon a time, there was some Sims class DDs looking to rearm from a Black Hawk class AD. Now a Black Hawk has a cargo cap of 2475 (fully loaded). And the weapon with the ‘biggest’ rearm cost on a Sims, is a 21” Mk-15 torp (LC=Rearm Cost=1650).

So Papa Sims shows up and says “All my magazines are empty, and I want stuff”. Blackie says “You want a 1650, and I gots 2475, so come ahead.” Papa Sims loads up his totally empty magazines (all torps, all 5”, all 40mm, all 20mm, all DCs, everything), which costs about 80 tons of supply.

So now, Blackie has (2475 – 80) 2395 tons on-board, when Papa’s brother Bill Sims shows up and says “All my magazines are empty, and I want stuff”. Blackie says “You want a 1650, and I gots 2395, so come ahead.” And so it goes for about 7 or 8 times, till Blackie is down to 1635, and when Baby Sims shows up and says “All my magazines are empty, and I want stuff”, Blackie has to say “You want a 1650, and I gots 1635, so you are sol dude. But I can rearm everything less than 1635.”

So, Baby Sims went to war without her torps and got whacked by a Jap DD that had a good Chinese cook that made sure the porridge was ‘just right’.

Absolutely no disrespect is intended to Torsten, or anyone else. I view Torsten as a friend (I trust), and one who is able to see the fundamental truths in the midst of one of my more, admittedly, hyperbolic stories.

Glad ya'll liked the story. Hoped it had some value. Torsten, I hope it put ya to bed, with visions of 'capacity' running thru your head.

But how did Blackie know that it costs exactly 80? What would blacke need to rearm Kongo?

Does the game"know" that a MAD is especially well suited against subs or will all radars be usefull against subs?
Will bombers with a surface radar be as good in ASW duty as planes especially for that role like Q1W1, B5N2 and Ki-49 Ia?

Blackie knows because Blackie did the calculations like it says in the manual [:)] Or something like that.
