This new stand alone release based on the legendary War in the Pacific from 2 by 3 Games adds significant improvements and changes to enhance game play, improve realism, and increase historical accuracy. With dozens of new features, new art, and engine improvements, War in the Pacific: Admiral's Edition brings you the most realistic and immersive WWII Pacific Theater wargame ever!
If it doesn't simulate things down to the last sailor, I have no interest in the game as it is a pile of arcadey trash unfit for human consumption.
It just something to do if you want to take a break, infact it good to work on your multi-tasking, at least improving it. But be warned, you can get stressful in this game if you easily get pissed lol.
It'll be arcadey which is still fun sometimes. I had a lot of fun with Navy Field.
As a minor callout to a different arcadey style game, I actually really enjoyed a smaller indie game called "Victory at Sea" on Steam. It has a "campaign mode" (which is more like a modern day Sid Meier's Pirates) and your successes give you "War Bonds" (LOL) as a currency, but as you gain xp you unlock bigger ships and can eventually compose a fleet of up to 20 ships to run amok in the various theaters (looked like there was Pacific, Med, and I think Atlantic as the third.
Arcadey but it's fun to unleash the big guns, and the best thing was that you can alter the speed of the game (including fully on pause) which is useful especially since some of the fleet wide order mechanics don't work as well as I'd like. You can also let the AI control the ships you don't want, which of course can have mixed results. My first missions were to compromise supply shipping to the Wotje Atoll, and doing so hurt its supplies which made the base easier to take (I needed less landing ships, which spawn automatically, to land to take the base).
I ran around with a few Fletchers, and eventually added some Portlands to the fleet which let me take the smaller atolls.
Cricket I haven't played WOT for a while now. Started in arty until the reload nerd killed the joy and played a lot of TD snipers. I don't have the skill, skins or reflexes to play the heavies well.

Well you can try Great Naval Battle Series, but you will need DOS to run it. Too bad they never keep working on those type of games. More and more arcade games start to pouring in and I don't like that at all.
Think I got mine from ebay for under ten bucks, I use to have it when first came out, guess it gotten lost during moving around a lot. Good game by the way, wish they move up making next generation.
I think you're missing the the meat of the link I posted above... The DoS Box runs on a browser. I'm using Chrome & can play the game... It IS a little cluncky to play like this but man! I really enjoy attacking an enemy TF and trying to nail a target from the gun section, or watch the fire-fight from the bridge. Trying to run damage control is fun too.

From time to time I go to channel of "The Mighty Jingles" (i.e. the author of the original video this thread started with) and I watch the progress of the "The World of Warships" through his videos...
He is knowledgeable chap (British) and it is interesting to listen to him!
IMHO the "The World of Warships", albeit arcadish, might be something that we Grognards can enjoy playing and relaxing from time to time... [8D]
So... if you get some spare time sometimes do watch some of his "The World of Warships" videos - it is worth it!
Only realtime wargame I ever liked are the Command Ops tactical games. I beta tested Battles form The bulge and my old AAR of a beta test game is still stickied in that forum (although the forum is relegated to dormant status as Panther games moved on to a different publisher).
Game was not a clickfest as you can pause it at any time to issue orders. Its also NOT a 3D arcade game. You can even set it to run in set time increments and if you don't pause during that time to issue orders it reflects a sort of turn based game structure.
No time for tactical games though now that I'm addicted to the ultimate mega-game.
I was okay game, you will get bored playing it. I mess with it for six round, sank six ships and didn't lose any. Its pretty easy to play as long you have a good end pc to run the graphics.
Anyway I didn't mess with it much, I like flying or War Thunder better and the ground World of Tanks is fun for awhile.
You have to take things "lightly" - it is arcade fun game to pass time! [;)]
But it still has many nice features that aren't so "gamey" (ships are big, cumbersome and they have inertia, when firing you have to understand the basics of gunnery etc.)... [:)]
I think they did a good job with the game, but it's not nearly as enjoyable as I thought (hoped) it would be. The first few games were fun, but after a couple of dozen games I was like <yawn> "well that's enough of that" </yawn>.
