Observations so far

Post by Rogue187 »

As December 1941 draws to a close, I have noticed a few things about the game.

1. Its actually a little easier than i have given it credit for. I was always so overwhelmed trying to play it that i never really got into the game. Seriously, check the fourms, i have been here before. But now its like, ok, I get it now. I spend more time trying to build bases and figure out logistics than i do operations.

2. Oz is a weird animal. Lots of transports, few escorts and not enough supply. Japanese subs have torpedoed 20 or so of my AKs around Australia since so many are running without escort. The good news is that i have only lost supply.

3. British warships in India....i have no clue as to what to do with them. The Hermes is so weak that i see it as a commerce raider. The Swordfish are good if they can score a hit, but no fighters or dive bombers really limits what it can do. Any advice?

I cross train Hermes Swordfish squadron in ASW work so it can escort troop TFs from Aden to Karachi or Cape Town to Columbo/Bombay/Madras. Hermes stays on map and meets the incoming TFs at the map edge.
Later on the British get some Martlet, Sea Hurricane and Seafire aircraft to use on carriers. You may have to resize the airgroups to fit the carrier capacity.

ad 3. It is easy. Evacuate the warships to Bombay. Start builidng Bombay port on turn 2, so it reaches port level 7 ASAP. Level 7 will reload your BBs. Also, Bombay gathers all fuel/supply surplus from India so you can reload and refuel the whole Royal Navy there.
