Re: TRACOM Instructors

In order for Tracom to work best you need at least ten Tracom pilots of a given nationality to speed up the training of pilots of that nationality (For Japan, the IJA and IJN are considered two different nationalities). As long as the instructor pilots experience is at 81 any number higher than that...

Re: Manual converting of ship types

I keep seeing references in posts to manually converting ships into other types. For example, someone suggested that if an AK is damaged and in repair, then manually convert it to an AKE as it is repaired and this takes only 120 days more. I believe it has to be one of those AKs (like the Harriman ...

Re: First Carrier Battle: 2v1=Draw?

(I had one great fortunate break in my game. CV Soryu was sunk by a Dutch sub off of Java, and I don’t think any of her air groups survived. No friendly airbases or carriers nearby. That was a totally unexpected bonus. In terms of subs, I'm always hoping the Dutch, the British and the odd S-Boat ca...

Re: Board Wargames for Sale.

Counting the distances on the blue sea was a challenged. I screwed up, and ruined the entire first post Pearl Harbor battle by not intercepting. I had no clue. The problem, is the not knowing how the game strategy really works. Unlike a computer game, you can play it fast and learn strategies. This...

Re: Is the AI too dumb?

Every week or so another Japanese force arrives to invade, but my troops hold them off while the surface action TF destroys the Japanese invasion force. I don't know how many ships I have sunk at this point, but just deleting TF after TF is not fun. There are no significant escorts, no carriers to ...

The 2011 thread concerning the mod is still there, but the associated download site doesn't seem to be extant anymore.

Re: Scenarios available for WitP AE

What is the French Thai scenario? Was it a mod? I guess so. Do you know who the Creator was? Look in the sticky section of the design and modding part of this forum....GP This scenario was called 'War Options 1941 Mod' and was numbered as scenario 39. In the editor the scenario author's name was li...

Re: How Can I stop Shock Attacking?

I'm sure the experienced players understand how to be patient, but the AI is very aggressive and I felt that I needed to do something to slow their advance. That is the only reason I invaded. I can understand wanting to blunt the AI's advance, but Baker seems like the kind of location you just let ...

Re: Graf Zeppelin stornieren

You won't get outta the lagoon with sinking. That's the Graf Zeppelin's problem too. I've always thought it might be useful out in the deep South Atlantic Ocean raiding Allied convoy lines from a distance. But getting it intact out of the Baltic past the Allied cordon in the North Sea waiting to po...

Re: How Can I stop Shock Attacking?

The auto shock attacks are making things worse and I don't know what to do. Should I just keep adding more and more troops? The problem is that units that do not own the base on an atoll being invaded (i.e., American forces invading a Japanese-held atoll) will mechanically continue to launch shock ...

Wreck of USS Harder found.

Sam Dealey's famous submarine has been positively identified at the bottom of the South China Sea.

Re: Graf Zeppelin stornieren

Can anybody tell me an easy way to do so You don't have to build the Graf Zeppelin. It's a decision event which occurs in January 1940. Just say no and you'll save yourself 200 MPP at 25 MPP a turn for 8 turns. The Bismarck and Tirpitz and other Axis ships you are stuck with receiving as they are c...

Re: First Carrier Battle: 2v1=Draw?

I hate dueling with Japanese carriers early in the war. 3 to 1 odds feel about where you have an edge but that is rare. They just outperform every time. I usually hope for a lucky hit by a sub to attrit their numbers a bit.

Re: Is the AI too dumb?

How does the scripting work? Is it "attack Port Morsby at all costs until captured?" or more like ships A, B, and C will attack Port Morsby but if they are damaged, sunk, or forced to withdraw, then nothing will ever attack Port Morsby again? Or maybe if X amount of ships or troops are lo...

Re: Early game u boat and surface raider threat

You know where the Germans are going to get anything done. Start patrolling those convoy lanes with some destroyers and light cruisers with battleships and carriers as back-up. When you find something with the lighter ships or air patrols then pounce with the carriers and the heavy ships. You have n...

Re: Dive bombers used for level bombing

So if I have a group of Dauntless dive bombers on ASW patrol at 2,000 feet, they will still divebomb a sighted sub? Probably. When the Japanese sub I-70 was sighted and sunk by an Enterprise Dauntless dive bomber on December 10th, 1941, the SBD pilot first climbed the plane up to 5,000 feet from lo...

Re: Is the AI too dumb?

Would be interesting if recent development in AI generally could be taught to make good "AI scripts" for game. I'm no expert on the subject, but over on the general discussion forum the developer for Empire in Arms sure seemed to throw cold water on the idea that recent incarnations of AI...
