Re: All things Football (soccer) related

…….and on a positive note, better to lose to Madrid than Bayern - that would have been tougher to take.

Re: All things Football (soccer) related

Borussia Dortmund 0-2 Real Madrid I hate football  Well... it has some good things. Greetings from Madrid 8-) warspite1 Hi Piteas - congratulations to Madrid. They were second best in the final but, as all good teams do, they found a way to win by being clinical when it mattered. But Vinicius...

Re: What Book Are You Reading at the moment?

I haven't read anything about the Napoleonic wars for so long.... .... but watching Napoleon has got the interest back!! I'll start with Napoleon The Final Verdict (Heythornthwaite). I bought this back in the late nineties and recall it was an excellent read. Various historians comment up Napoleon'...

Re: sweden during ww2 and his ore

for that "Shanghai and Nanjing 1937" book, mayby author didnt mentioned it as first air, land, sea combined operation because he thought that first happened earlier ? sure, this is pure speculation. so, what in yours eyes disqalify shanghai as first example of combined air, land, sea oper...

Re: sweden during ww2 and his ore

Not to mention the battle of Majorca in 1936 during the Spanish Civil War. Aircraft bombing, an amphibious invasion, a vigorous counterattack forcing the attacking forces to evacuate. Of course, the United Kingdom was not involved there either. warspite1 And again with the unnecessary comment.

Re: sweden during ww2 and his ore

This is your initial comment on combined arms actions: On the one hand you have those that believe this first ever example of a combined arms amphibious (army, navy, airforce) operation was a masterstroke of genius. So now you are changing the concept of combined arms. warspite1 This was a comment ...

Re: sweden during ww2 and his ore

Combined arms actions happened in antiquity, if you understand the concept. warspite1 As was made clear by the three historians I quoted, they refer to air, sea and land. What air operations took place in antiquity - when aircraft were hundreds of years away - I can’t imagine. But as said, we can a...

Re: sweden during ww2 and his ore

The Gallipoli campaign had combined army, naval, and air units in the attack. That was a few years before the German invasion of Norway. warspite1 Never heard this, I’d be interested (and surprised) to hear what aircraft were operated by the Allies, what bases they flew from, and their role in the ...
