Go to the art link thread in the mod forum.

If you're not playing the game with these free visual enhancements, you're really missing out.

Halsey: Thanks a lot for doing this. I've been updating the beta about once a fortnight and it seems like I get a few new unit insignias each time. Is your work being incorporated by michaelm in the betas?

Cheers,
CC

Have you seen these utilities I wrote a while back:

These tools will examine what art work you have installed and display them in a web browser to save you trawling through the encyclopedia. This should be useful to see what you are missing, if any are wrong etc...

They also extract meaningful information from the scenario files (make sure you pick the right one) so you know what you are looking at!!!

The artwork itself can be downloaded from Halsey's site: https://sites.google.com/site/aewitplandairartwork/home/ae-witp-bitmap-downloads

Enjoy!!!

Of course I use all the artwork..

Talonsoft had a great idea when it put individual unit art in it's games, (as did Shrapnel IIRC), so I was quick to absorb the work produced here..Thank you..

Please pardon the question from the technologically-incompetent. I downloaded the artwork from the website (which look great, by the way) according to the instructions (creating a sub-file in the Art file, unzipping there, etc.) . However, the artwork is not appearing when I open the game. I am not using the current Beta--if that makes a difference. What am I doing wrong? Is there some step I am missing to activate the insignia? Thanks so much.

Inside that sub-file, you must drag drop each art work you wish to use into the main art folder..(Do not just place the downloaded folder into the art folder and expect it to be there automatically..)If this has changed, I am not aware of it?

Michael did the coding for this, but the individual artwork must be downloaded seperately from the art sites.

Reg, if it wasn't for your tools, I would've never gotten this far.[&o]

Looks like you need to download the current files, some of your art is incomplete.[;)]

In addition, there were many contributors that worked on the Allies.
I tried to list as many as I could in the detail notes located in the zipfiles.
Les is still doing Allied ships.[&o]

My major contribution was to put all of it together in one location for posterity.[;)]

All the Japanese are my babies, Reg did the Imperial crests.
So if you have any issues, its my fault.[:D]

Wonderful. This doesn't affect a PBEM game if I install these does it? Or, is that a dumb question?

Strictly a visual game enhancement.

Has no effect on gameplay.[;)]

I realize it doesn't alter play. I just didn't know if it would screw anything up if I had it, and my team members didn't for example..

Nope, it just personalizes your own install.

One downfall though.
You'll probably take longer to make a turn, because you'll be spending more time checking out all the cool unit insignias.[;)][:D]

Should look like this.

-Matrix Games(Folder)
-Art(Folder)
AlliedPatch(Folder)
JapPatch(Folder)

Folders need to be created in the game, or the game won't recognize it.
As Bob says, you can't drop a new folder into the art folder, make one there first.
Then extract (without zip creating folders) to the new folders you created and renamed.

I missed part of your paragraph, sorry.

Update and get the beta's, you need them as the hardcode for the artwork to be seen, was added sometime in the past.

I recommend the beta's anyway, they offer a much better improvement for gameplay.

These will eventually be in the next official patch.[;)]

I'm glad you found them useful.. I brought them up again for the next generation who may not have seen them since they are so deeply buried in the art thread now. [:(]

Yes I know. I just linked to existing pics for illustration purposes... [:D]

Edit: Uploaded a new LCU graphic which is more up to date.....

Rotating Artwork was incorporated with Official Patch 3 so if you are running the latest official version V1106g (or any of the Beta versions), you are covered. [:)]

Edit: Rotating Artwork can be turned off with the -fixedArt command line switch. (only default aircraft/ship artwork will be displayed). The AGP/LCU/SHP unit patches will still be displayed if installed.

Reg.
