Commercial Officer - Defence

Slitherine is a leading supplier of strategy games for the recreational market, and under its Matrix Pro Sims brand, a trusted supplier of simulations to defence organisations such as the UK MOD, US DOD, defence industry, and academia. Our products and services are built on a foundation of innovation, quality, and excellence, and we are looking for a Commercial Officer to join our team and help us continue to grow and expand our business.

Slitherine historically has sold to consumers and has no specific B2B role and currently the commercial tasks are spread among a number of the team. We are pulling those tasks together in to a single role and as a result the role is going to be partially dictated by the individual. It is a great opportunity for someone with vision and drive to really make a difference and the role could definitely be expanded for the right candidate. There will be a lot of freedom and the ideal candidate will need to be able to work independently, but there will also be support and mentoring available from senior leadership when needed.

As the Commercial Officer, you will be responsible for driving growth by managing the company's relationships with defence customers, such as the UK MOD, US DOD, defence industry, and academia. You will become the primary point of contact for these customers, working closely with them to understand their needs, coordinate solutions and develop new business opportunities. 

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and develop relationships with defence customers.
  • Maintain the customer database. 
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities with existing and new customers.
  • Work closely with the company's product development team to ensure that products and services meet the needs of defence customers.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to develop and implement effective marketing strategies and campaigns.
  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the defence industry and its trends and requirements.
  • Monitor and report on sales performance and revenue.
  • Provide excellent customer service and support throughout the sales process.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in B2B sales, preferably in the defence industry or a related field.
  • Knowledge of defence industry.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to think strategically and creatively.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with customers.
  • Knowledge of Hubspot is a plus but not required.
  • Energy and ambition to drive growth and success and the ability to work independently.

Salary: £30,000 - £45,000 per year
