Refits

Post by Cap Mandrake »

Pretend I haven't got far enough in a WITP game to know the answer to this.

1) How do you know when a ship refit has been started?

2) Are there any impediments to starting a refit? Imagine a big, honkin' base with plenty of supply and a HQ where refits seem not to be happening. Do I need to send in a requisition or something? What gives?

On the ship panel, you will see the date the refit is available. As soon as that date is upon you, stick the ship in a port with a repair yard. Once the ship has low enough damage, it will be updated (and some fresh damage will be added)

A ship will immediately upgrade - it will just show more SYS damage. If you are expecting an ugrade to say, the USS Fabertong in April 1942, when it upgrades it will show USS Fabertong (4/42) as the name of the ship. Un-upgraded ships will not have the date shown.

The amount of damage is variable, but depends largely on the ship type. Something like an AP or DD may have 10-15 pts damage, while a CV or BB might have only 1-3 points damage.

EDIT:

Oh yes, no requisitions needed, but you have to have "upgrades allowed" enabled. Usually, will go to the base ship list and click on "allow upgrades for all ships listed" if there is any doubt.

Make sure you reverse this individually if you have a ship you DON'T want to upgrade like the USS Argonaut.

One thing you need to refit a ship is to disband it in a port with a repair facility. You also need to wait until the date that it's scheduled for upgrade. (ie, April 2nd, 1942 if the upgrade date is 4/42) And, the SYS damage of the ship needs to be low. BB's and CV's need 3 or less SYS to upgrade. CA's and CL's is around 6-7 SYS. DD's and most other small ships can have up to 11-12 SYS and they'll upgrade.

You know an upgrade has happened because the class of the ship will change (ie, Lexington 4/42 instead of just Lexington). You'll also see some amount of SYS damage added to the ship when it upgrades. BB's and CV's gain 3-4 SYS damage. CA's and CL's gain 6-7. DD's and smaller ships gain 11-14 SYS damage. (note the correlation between how much SYS is added and how much SYS it can have before an upgrade is allowed.)
The older I get, the better I was.

Hi,

1. When looking at the ship in question you'll see the current refit reflected in the class info of the ship. E.G. CA Northampton is currently at 4/42 refit but is in 10/42 and is due the next refit.

You'll know it has upgraded to it's 10/42 when in the ship info screen the class of the ship shows as being "Northampton class 10/42" RATHER than "Northampton Class 04/42"

2. For ANY refit to start you need to have docked the ship in a port with a REPAIR YARD. Also, the ship must have <5 SYS damage for a refit to start.
