Pilot replacements

Post by RockinRob »

Hi everybody, i just finished my first ten days as axis in BTR 1943. The stats show around 220 pilots KIA or MIA and some (expecially italian) squads are starting to look a little light on pilots. I didn´t see the game generating any new pilots. Now i checked the database and saw that overall the axis has around 4.000 pilots (from the beginning and those that appear later).

If i got my math right i will be out of pilots in half a year???

On the plus side the allies lost more than 2.000 pilots KIA and MIA, so even as they got around 14.000 pilots in the database they´ll be out of pilots in two month...

Are those losses too high or is it normal and the game will work fine with generated pilots?

Thanks cohimbra, it does help a lot.

Tried browsing the Forum manually and didn´t find the answer. There are like 100 Topics visible but when I use the search i get like 200 Topics? Is that me or is it strange?

Anyway I´d like to hear how many Pilots other players loose as Axis. Is 20/day a lot?

Take a look at the principal screen of this forum...under the first block of threads (tech support, after action report, the war room, opponent wanted, etc etc); if you look at the right of the page you can see two filter; the one you must change is Display topics from last: 365 (365 is set by default). If you click on that number you can select All topics and you're able to read all the threads opened in this forum.

Well, it depends on how heavy are the day battles. But in my opinion, and from my experience as Axis player, an average of 20 pilot loss per turn could be considered heavy losses. But maybe I'm wrong, I'm a defensive player [:D]

You will not run out of pilots. Maybe out of named pilots, but rookies will show up from flight schools as soon as you need them, and they will die as they did in reallity.

So one of your most important tasks is not to loos your experienced pilots in useless battles. Otherwise you will later have advanced fighters flown by unexperienced guys that will achive anything than burning fuel and produce start/landing accidents.

You can run out of pilots and in PBEM with at least one aggressive player you will suffer pilot shortages. You will never have a pilot problem (or any problem for that matter) against the AI.

The Axis gets 23 replacement pilots a day. 15 German and 2 each Italian, Rumanian, Hungarian, and CoAxis. The Italian pilot pool zeros out at the surrender and restarts when the new Italian units are formed.

The Allies get 60 or 61. American 25, Brit 10, Canada and Australia 4, else 2 maybe 1. The 10 for the Brits is the real problem. Bomber command tends to take that many losses on average. Losses in the Med put them into a shortage that never seems to end against a reasonable opponent.

All nations have a pool equal to 10 days of replacements. Today's losses are replaced after the pool is filled so you really have a pool of 10 days less today's losses.

Replacement pilots are experienced (transfers not fresh from school) until the end of 43 there after they are green. It often behooves you to keep very low experience units out of combat and fly training missions for them until they get up into the 50s.
