Eagle Day 1 Week Scenario

Post by avgard »

Beginning scenario as Luftwaffe. Blaze is playing the Brits. Inflicted severe damage on several of his primary
aifrields during first raid. Thereafter Luftwaffe ahead on points 130 to 98. Most of the raids did not hit
their primary or secondary targets. Light close supports equates to heavier casualties. His air defense chewed up
some of the JU88's but the rest faired ok and the Me109's did their job. Me110's no match for Brit and took the
only fighter casualties. Second days raids went after oil depots, ports, and more primary airfields. Will update
after I receive the battle reports.

Well, back to the drawing board for me. After a successful start, German losses doomed their endeavor. 1 week scenario resulted in German loosing on points with the Brits ending with a strong lead. I attacked over a large area and the results were mixed with the level bombers getting kicked around pretty good and the Me110 being not worth much against the Brits. Looks like it is better to knock the target out the first time than having to keep coming back.

Started a new game against Louie. Playing it more conservative this time. Also, reread the instructions and
discovered it would help my point total if I limited my bombing mission to targets that generated points. Whoops.
First attack is with the guys up North. The 4 groups there attack Dyce. Now to the South, 5 Raids hit Tangmere
with the secondary target being Thorney Island. Thorney gets its own raid to. So that is seven raids so far.
Then Biggin Hill gets 2 big raids with Kenley as the secondary. Biggin is further in so there is alot of escort.
Then comes night. 3 raids on Thorney coming in at 400 feet. A 4th night raid on Coltishall to keep the Brits
guessing. All in all, 13 raids hitting 5 primary airfields on the first turn. Luftwaffe is as strong as its going
to get and full of piss and vinegar. So, we will see what happens. Except for on the first turn. So go for it.
Except for the Northern raid, everything else is hitting at 7:36 am (with a couple coming at 7:40 with Me110's
as escort). Hopefully the Me109's will have cleared the way. The night raids all hit at 19:44 so we will see
how it goes.

The results are in for the first raid. 3 of the 5 Tangmere raids hit target. Thorney got hit by its solo raid too. The 2 raids on Kenley missed target and went home. That night Thorney got hit by 3 more raids. The raid on Coltishall missed target. End result. Thorney's damage was at 99% and Tangmere's damage was at 71%. RAF lost 38 planes and Luftwaffe lost 37. Hurricanes took most of the heat for the allies while the German losses were pretty evenly spread out. After first raid, point total is 108 for the Germans and 65 for the allies.

There was only 1 raid on the second day. A night raid hit Tangmere. Tangmere's damage was 70%. Rather than send up understrength wings I let the rest have a
day off and let them get replacements and repairs. Point total 105 for the Germans and 65 for the allies.

Eagle Day on Day 3. 3 raids were launched against Tangmere. 2 were day raids and 1 was a night raid. 3 more
raids hit Hornchurch. 2 were day raids and 1 was a night raid. 2 more raids hit Gosport. Both were night raids.
Tangmere's damage was 99%. Hornchurch's damage was 37%. Gosport's damage was 72% The raid on Dyce was a dud.
It was a hot day in the skies. RAF losses were 46 aircraft. Luftwaffe losses were 75. It was a bloody day.
JU-88's took half the losses for the German bombers and the Do's and He's taking the other half. On the other hand
the luftwaffe lost 7 Me109's and 1 Me110 and the allies lost 24 Hurricanes and 18 Spitfires. Not bad. The Me109's
are doing their job. British primary airforce damage Gosport/72 Hornchurch/37 Tangmere/99 Thorney Island/97.
Point totals are 330 for the luftwaffe an 232 for the Brits. All of the raids executed their bombing raids at
the same time no matter the location.

Eagle Day on Day 4. The raid on Dyce inflicted 1% damage. 3 more raids hit Gosport. 2 raids hit Hornchurch. 2 raids missed Biggin Hill. 1 raid hit Coltishall. Brit primary airport damage is Coltishall/61% Gosport/71% Hornchurch/64 Tangmere/98% Thorney Island/96% Dyce/1% It was another bloody day.
RAF losses were 48 aircraft. Luftwaffe losses were 58 aircraft. Allies lost 25 Hurricanes and 14 Spitfires. The luftwaffe lost 26 Me109's and 13 Me110.
The bombers had a sweet day with the JU-88's loosing 13 planes and none for the DO's and He's. The Me109's took the heat so the bombers could do their job.
Point totals are 470 for the Luftwaffe and 328 for the Brits. Still following the rule that units with less than 20 active planes stay home.

Eagle Day 5th Day: When I got Louie's email with his move, he commented "he needed a break". Little worried on
that comment, but it turns out he was referring to the small number of raids. 1 raid Thorney. 2 raids hit Gosport
and 1 more raid hit Coltishall. Brit primary airfield damage was: Coltishall/60 Gosport/99 Hornchurch/64
Tangmere/97 Thorney/95. RAF lost 7 planes and the Luftwaffe lost 8. Me109's took no losses. The losses among
the bombers were evenly distributed. Point totals are 451 for the Germans and 354 for the Brits.

5th Day raids: 4 for Hornchurch. 2 for Coltishall. I for Biggin Hill. 1 for Kenley. 1 for Thorney. 2 for
St. Eval. 2 night raids. And 1, gutsey hugging the waters raid. We'll see how it goes. Still licking my wounds
too.

avgard, you should be aware of the Bomber and Coastal Command airfields that don't give you any air superiority points. Zip. Some say the German player shouldn't be made aware of these bases but all you would need to do is play as the Brits to find out what they are:

GOSPORT, THORNEY ISLAND, DETLING, EASTCHURCH

ABINGDON, WINSLOW, BRAMPTON GRANGE, EXNING. HUNTINGTON, GRANTHAM, BAWTRY, YORK, HIGH WYCOMBE

Louie had a good 5th turn. He shot down 63 while only loosing 34. 30 Me109's comprised almost half of the German losses. St. Eval,
Hornchurch, Coiltshall, and Biggin Hill were all hit. Point score: Germans 600+ and Allies 520. At this point,
the game froze up. I was declared the victor due to my point lead. No fancy tactics on either of our part. Just
the Luftwaffe and Brits having it out. Great game. Could use an update. This is my oldest Matrix game it is a
good one.

Thats a nice piece of information as I generally hit Thorney pretty hard. The rest I have not touched. Just
played first 1 week campaign. Plays pretty close to the DOS version.

Louie and I ran a test game to see if our machines were back in sync. It was a 1 day campaign. I left Thorney
and Gosport alone this time.

It froze up on the second move. I reinstalled the patch and played a new game without issue. Frozen game never
played right.

Did not see my reply. Yes I downloaded the latest patch and reinstalled it. Game worked fine after that. I have
had this problem with other Grigsby games. Reinstalling the patch generally fixed it.
