Showpieces

Command: Chains of War is a DLC for Command: Modern Operations. 20 minutes into the future, a spark erupts in the Korean peninsula that will lead to a theaterwide conflagration embroiling the entire Western Pacific and drag all major powers into it.

I'm not saying I'm an expert. I know games just games. I'm just thinking that damage mode in these simulators could be something better since they are flight simulators, although they might not be the same in real life.

Actually you don't need to bother about the bandits at the beginning. Since they can't detect your lrasms, their AEW can't, too. So you just need to locate the CSG, shoot 24 lrasms and make sure your missiles turn their radar on when they are about 1.5nm from the carrier, then, mission completed.
Mine were all shot down, at a distance of a few miles and with radar off. I'm not sure what accounts for the difference.

I think because these guys have put SO MUCH time and effort into this game, there is an element of defensiveness. I would probably be the same. But I am with you: I'm not even remotely an expert, I'm a casual hobbyist who only knew the term "AMRAAM" because of a vague memory from Jane's F/A-18 game, before I started playing this. So there a lot of things I see in this game where I think to myself: WOW, is that really how it is? Should we really expect it to take ~8 AMRAAMs to impact and knock out a Flanker? I'm not saying that I know better, or that I'm sure the model is flawed, I literally have no idea. I have no idea if it is reasonable that a carrier group can easily knock 20, 30, 40, however many cruise missiles out of a sky and not take a single hit. Maybe it is! So I ask these questions, although at the end of the day I realize that the developers have researched the hell out of this (but I also know that things don't always simulate as intended.) Like a lot of Americans, I have sort of lived with the assumption that we still have this overwhelming technological dominance, that Tomahawk missile strikes are still a viable and effective option, that 5th gen American fighters are unparalleled in the skies, etc. This game really demolishes many of these notions.

I'm assuming the ship, all the CAP was to the north and the east at that point, with the missiles approaching from the south.

Maybe your missiles turned their radar on too soon? By default it will turn its radar on when it is about 5nm from the target, and in that cases there will be enough time for the CSG to shoot down your missiles.

I'm sure that's what happened, given that I didn't even realize this parameter could be adjusted.

Neither did I. Cool! Did you do a bearing only launch? The 5NM radar activation was why I didn't use them.

That's an interesting point. I sunk the escorts with SSK but this approach of LRASM barrage activated at the very last moment can work very well.
Is there a way to make the LRASM attack only with IR sensor? Clicking on right button on missiles allocated in Weapon allocated to selected target it just shows Special: high altitude detonation but not clickable. Did you use BOL lunch at night?

Thanks

It looks like the lrasms only turn on their radars when they've reached the end of their plotted course. You can make course adjustments when they're already in the air. Doing that, I bunched them together into a tight pack, and set the last waypoint less than half a mile from the carrier (with periodic updates from my p-1.) The target ships only had a few seconds to react once the lrasms turned on their radars, and nearly all of them got through. You can also change the lrasms targets when they're in the air, so by redirecting them all to the carrier as soon as it's identified, I sank it with just lrasms.
