Favorite Race and Ship Loadouts and why

Post by LoBlo »

So what is your favorite race to play and what is your favorite ship load out and why?

I'll go first.

I favor the Bosarkans and the Dhayut for two reasons. 1) The racial tolerance for war without accruing too much war weariness. 2) both have a forward facing weapon mounts which I believe is superior to side facing.

My favorite loadout is fast moving cruisers/destroyers with titan blasters and tractor beams for point blank engagements. They are supported by slow moving battleships/carriers with long range beam support.

What are your favorites?

Human cause I play the game like the federation in star trek.
Side weapons are for seeking weapons. Unfortunately torpedoes are in all better than missles, or is there something I missed?!

The two that I like the most are either Zenox with strong shields and heavy Beam weapon fleets or Humans with their kinetics, missiles and fighters.

These two fight very differently.

The Zenox are quite straight forward with very powerful beams that is good at both range and closer up. I usually combine them with Beams and Ion weapons.

The humans are very different with much weaker defences but really good long range capacity but can also pack a punch with their kinetic weapons at closer ranges. But they work best at range and relying on massed fighters for bigger fleets and escorts with kinetic weapons that disengage when weakened to come back and distract the opponent while the long range pick the opponent apart.

Humans are more of a true combined arms fleet while the Zenox are more of a true Juggernaught fleet but a bit vulnerable to masses of fighters.

In general I'm rarely very aggressive player and don't do war unless I'm forced to it. I favour building alliances rather than conquer everything. I try to really role play whatever I play as, so if I play the more aggressive races I do, but I rarely play with them.

I also try to avoid war wherever possible, and I think of war as a diplomatic fail state. I really like the Teekans, as their early perks to resource wealth and their trade focus gives a big leg up in the early diplomacy game, and I'm looking forward to their faction refresh update, where I hope to see some nice tie-ins to their awesome thematic elements, such as leveraging the salvaging of abandoned ships for competitive tech boosts (and fingers crossed for the return of sand slugs and some sort of tie-in there). I usually just let the AI design my ships, but I try to make sure to research enough military tech so that I have a potent toolbox if I need one.

I've been playing some Humans lately, and I must confess that I really like some of their new updated perks. The free ambassador (and thematically appropriate internal debates) after signing a Defense pact is great, and I love the Bold New Worlds perk, which really incentivizes more aggressive expansion positioning to be sure to snag Continental planets and independents. All we need now are some female leaders on occasion, and Humanity will once again be a worthy inclusion to the galactic community. I tend to send the military research down rail-gun and starfighter paths here, which I confess is solely because I love Battlestar Galactica.

Really looking forward to the new expansion, and crossing my fingers that, with a new massive existential threat on the horizon, there are improved diplomacy systems as well to make it more engaging for empires to unite against the coming darkness. Good times.

I tend to find myself playing races whose ship sets I really like aesthetically. That said, I also play as "good guys' all the time, so I find myself mostly playing Ackdarians and Zenox, since those races meet both of my criteria - nice looking ships and "good" guys. However, I've also occasionally experimented with playing as "good" Dhayut, because I love their ships so much, and it can be fun to use their vast spying capabilities, even in the name of good.

And like others here, I always play defensively, trying to protect the citizens of the galaxy from the forces of evil!

Avoid War? Ha! I crave it and attack all that I see! I only stop if there's too much war weariness impeding my economy. If I can conquer you.... I will.....

Guess that's why I like Bosarkans and Dhayut......

We should play a match....

I'm also still partial to the Zenox with their big Star Beams. Made a love letter to them ... two years ago!

Yet I haven't played them a lot. I know it's strong already, and I tend not to replay the same strategy. And Zenox ships are easy to design. With that in mind?

Railgun-focused Humans. They're very strong, but to get the most out of it, an adaptive ratio of heavy railguns and care to fighter compliments needs to be taken according to the enemy- assuming they're strong enough to be a threat.

Human and Zenox ships are adaptable (humans much more so overall), and I like that. If I have a mission in mind, these races have a ship hull that is *at least* well suited to the job.
