Re: Graf Zeppelin stornieren

You won't get outta the lagoon with sinking. That's the Graf Zeppelin's problem too. I've always thought it might be useful out in the deep South Atlantic Ocean raiding Allied convoy lines from a distance. But getting it intact out of the Baltic past the Allied cordon in the North Sea waiting to po...

Re: How Can I stop Shock Attacking?

The auto shock attacks are making things worse and I don't know what to do. Should I just keep adding more and more troops? The problem is that units that do not own the base on an atoll being invaded (i.e., American forces invading a Japanese-held atoll) will mechanically continue to launch shock ...

Wreck of USS Harder found.

Sam Dealey's famous submarine has been positively identified at the bottom of the South China Sea.

Hopefully the site is deep enough and kept secret enough to keep the illegal ship scrappers at bay.

Re: Graf Zeppelin stornieren

Can anybody tell me an easy way to do so You don't have to build the Graf Zeppelin. It's a decision event which occurs in January 1940. Just say no and you'll save yourself 200 MPP at 25 MPP a turn for 8 turns. The Bismarck and Tirpitz and other Axis ships you are stuck with receiving as they are c...

Re: First Carrier Battle: 2v1=Draw?

I hate dueling with Japanese carriers early in the war. 3 to 1 odds feel about where you have an edge but that is rare. They just outperform every time. I usually hope for a lucky hit by a sub to attrit their numbers a bit.

Re: Is the AI too dumb?

How does the scripting work? Is it "attack Port Morsby at all costs until captured?" or more like ships A, B, and C will attack Port Morsby but if they are damaged, sunk, or forced to withdraw, then nothing will ever attack Port Morsby again? Or maybe if X amount of ships or troops are lo...

I don't recall it being much of an issue when my eyes were younger. But then up to a few years ago I used to be able to read all the fine print on those pill bottles too.

Re: Early game u boat and surface raider threat

You know where the Germans are going to get anything done. Start patrolling those convoy lanes with some destroyers and light cruisers with battleships and carriers as back-up. When you find something with the lighter ships or air patrols then pounce with the carriers and the heavy ships. You have n...

Re: Dive bombers used for level bombing

So if I have a group of Dauntless dive bombers on ASW patrol at 2,000 feet, they will still divebomb a sighted sub? Probably. When the Japanese sub I-70 was sighted and sunk by an Enterprise Dauntless dive bomber on December 10th, 1941, the SBD pilot first climbed the plane up to 5,000 feet from lo...

Re: Is the AI too dumb?

Would be interesting if recent development in AI generally could be taught to make good "AI scripts" for game. I'm no expert on the subject, but over on the general discussion forum the developer for Empire in Arms sure seemed to throw cold water on the idea that recent incarnations of AI...

Re: Question regarding the game map

In the end all map projections have their issues, it purely depends on where you want to take the accuracy hit. In the design notes the developers did mention having to make some compromises. The ideal way to model this much of the globe's surface is vector-based mapping with a real curved world. So...

Re: Question regarding the game map

What was the map projection used to generate it? These are the designer notes on the map as given in the manual--- The map is drawn using Azimuthal Equidistant projection, with a projection mid-point at 153 degrees East, 12 degrees North (near the island of Eniwetok in the Marshall Islands). This l...

Re: old forts used earthworks, can ships use water walls for defence

It is much better for bombs or shells to explode near a target and under water. Damage is primarily from hydraulic effect through the surrounding fluid. Fluids are in-compressible. Therefore, more energy is delivered to the target than an explosion in air, which is very compressible and dissipates m...

Rogue188 wrote: Tue May 14, 2024 7:25 pm I thought ships could only be withdrawn from Karachi or San Francisco.
When the game was first released in 2009 to withdraw a ship, it had to be either off-map or at any national home base except in the NEI or Philippines.

Section 6.9 has been updated a lot since then.

Re: Is the AI too dumb?

I just remembered something. Didn't AndyMac do some additional work on the AI scripting? I thought there used to be a list if scenarios where there were multiple AI options that would be randomly selected when the scenario was first loaded. Do those files still exist? Actually, the AI has always ha...

Re: Is the AI too dumb?

In almost every game I've played versus the Japanese AI it's lost a cruiser while triumphantly sailing into Manila Bay after the fall of Bataan due to the large US minefield there. However, the Japanese AI is head and shoulders above the Allied AI which often doesn't seem to know what to do with all...
