battle hardened

Post by altmunster »

i chased down a carrier by quantum drive after nailing its escort (and losing all of the othersships in my destroyer group in the process). right when i thought i had it in the beginning sector, it quantumed (sp?) to another sector...i guessed where it would go and followed it (lucky).

had to shoot a probe to locate it, then chased it down in my asher destroyer. it sent a bunch of fighters at me which i dispatched. when i got within range i realized i had no torpedos left, so i had to use pdbs and lasers (it started w/ about 80 hull, so it took me about 1h 30min in game time) to finally destroy it . it was particularly rewarding becasue i got ~2300 points and completed operation highland after that mission.

*chuckle* nice

piece of advice: gun for the Fusion reactor. On Dragon-class CVs and other Hegemony ships it is somewhat vulnerable from the rear/bottom. The Goliath-class CV's main reactor is vulnerable from the top.
@TheDeadlyShoe> Unless, say, you could make black holes at will.
@Razeam> I can do that but I don't want to.

that's pretty much what i was doing.
no defensive guns underneath. still took forever to take it down even targetting fusion subsystem, wish the game was advanced enough for me to call in for fleet support. there ws no way i was going to let that carrier go after tracking it down.

You can call in your squadron whenever you want. Just set up a navroute for them in the destination sector. You can also give them quantum jump orders through the right-click menu if you're still in the same sector as they are.

ah yes, i like that feature -
however, as noted above, all of the folks in my destroyer squadron were kia during the battle in the original sector. i know that my fleet had some ships left (the ai controlled ships that are on my side but not under my control). those are the ones that i wish i could radio for a little help side...how would one do that?

i have called for fighter support in a fighter mission, but i am unaware of a similar command for a destroyer, especially when on the offensive .

Example: In a prior fighter mission i had no more torpedos to take down a defenseless enemy freighter so i called for support. Though the support fighters came, they did not want to help shoot at the freighter. So it seems that support only helps when you are on the defensive.

You have to be a Grand Admiral to order ships that are not under your command.

They will respond to a "cover me" request though.
