Close Combat The Longest Day

Need some assistance with a crashing issue. I am on the last day of a campaign and on the battle of Arromanches. The game always crashes at the end of the battle and the screen freezes. Says loading.I have to start task manager in order to quit the game and I lose the saved game on the main screen. Tried multiple times to complete the battle but to no avail. Frustrating because I can't finish the game! I have windows 7 64 bit and I have checked for updates to the game but apparently I have the latest version.
