Multiplayer freezing

Close Combat: Gateway to Caen is the latest release in the critically-acclaimed Close Combat series and focuses on the largest, concentrated British offensive since the Normandy landings in an attempt to penetrate the German lines west of Caen and cross the Odon River to get the stalled advance moving again.

Multiplayer freezing

Post by Hoffies »

Hey guys, my mate and I have played CC together since... god. 2004 probably. This issue never really used to happen, but it got more frequent to the point where the game is no longer playable: after a random amount of time (can be 5 mins, but usually after 20 mins) the game network freezes in multiplayer. The game is basically unplayable now; it's incredibly frustrating because it always freezes up right towards the end of important combat. Has anyone experienced similar, and found a way around it? I should mention I'm Australian, he's American, but again this was never an issue back in the day. We've tried opening all our ports, DMZ etc, but no go.

Hi Hoffies -- I have not heard any general report of repeated freezes in multiplayer with Gateway to Caen. Here are some troubleshooting steps I'd suggest:

After you first connect to your opponent, check the initial lobby screen (where you confirm the game settings) and see if it says 'Direct Connection' or 'Lobby Connection.' Direct connection is generally more efficient and probably better for a potentially high-latency connection bewteen the USA and Australia. If you're not getting a direct connection then one of the computers router and/or firewall is blocking it.

If you're playing with mods I would recommend that you both revert to the base game and test to see if this makes a difference.

Also you might try switching who is hosting the multiplayer game, and perhaps disconnecting / reconnecting periodically, to see if either of those make a difference in the freezes.
