That's on top of the earlier one today? Were the epicenters near each other? I saw footage of water sloshing around in someone's aquarium.

I see the 4.3 that I saw was an aftershock from the 7.1 this morning.

Alaska is a very, very big place with a very small population. Seismic waves from earthquakes also don't travel as far around the Ring of Fire because the waves hit many faults and get dampered. The 7.1 today may have been felt in Anchorage, but I doubt it did very widespread damage.

The quake was very close to Mt Iliama which is a dormant volcano. The whole Aleutian chain exists because of the very active subduction zone just off the southern coast of Alaska. The zone extends east of Anchorage on the mainland.

Not too far from the earthquake epicenter was the largest volcanic eruption of the 20th century. Mt Novarupta erupted in 1912. It was so remote at the time that the eruption was attributed to the wrong volcano for many years. Mt Redoubt is close to the epicenter too.

I'm fine, sorry for not getting back to you sooner Patton, I actually saw this thread before your e-mail. I live in Fairbanks, which is 400+ miles away from the epicenter. I have a lot of friends in Anchorage, and while there is a lot of small damage, consisting of items falling off of shelves and the like (some of the liquor stores in Anchorage are a mess of broken glass and alcohol right now), injuries have been minimal. The worst damage is in Kenai, where gas lines were ruptured during the quake, causing three houses to explode.

Wife and I love a show on TV called "Alaska, The Last Frontier".
The Kilcher family is right in that neck of the woods.
I'm sure their new season will show how the locals were effected.
The earthquake which hit Alaska in the early sixties was over 9.0 and is remembered by all who were alive at the time.

I remember seeing a clip when I was young, in b&w that I think was from the '64 quake, of two Aleut or Inuit men (actually a man and a boy) with a husky sitting on chairs on a pier with a hut of some sort behind them.
Someone on a ship docked at the pier was filming them when suddenly everything was obscured by water. It was a tsunami and they were all gone when the water went back down. Chilling. There was a landslide in '58 that caused a tsunami and perhaps the clip was from that. Never been able to find it.
