Hello everyone, and welcome back to our last news of the year! Today we're going to give a little award to the most outstanding users of our forum! Remarkable people that contributed in one way or the other, creating new content or being part of the community.

The awards that are going to be given are:
- Most Successful Mod Award
- Most Successful AAR Award
- Most Active User Award
- Tournament Organizer of the Year
- Twitch Fidelity Award

The awards have been assigned trying to be as objective as possible. For "Most Successful Mod Award" and "Most Successful AAR Award" we checked the number of views that each pertinent topic had (created during 2017).

"Most Successful Mod Award", "Most Successful AAR Award" and "Tournament Organizer of the Year" are going to have two different winners each: one for Slitherine and one for MatrixGames.
Each winner will receive a little banner that will become his avatar on the forum so everyone will know how awesome you are!

So, let's start with a list of the winners:
- Most Successful Mod Award: The winners are Intenso82 for his "***[MOD] RUSSIA AT WAR:1941 [BETA]" and kirk23 for "The Rise and Fall Of An Empire!"

- Most Successful AAR Award: The winners are goose_2 for "Grand Campaign East 39-45 Manstein level" and Lowpe with "The Accidental War Obvert vs Lowpe"

- Most Active User Award: The winner is (surprise surprise) zakblood_slith!

- Tournament Organizer of the Year: goose_2 wins again for his awesome Panzer Corps Tournament, and Asid wins for his tournaments on Scourge of War: Waterloo!

- Twitch Fidelity Award: last but (DEFINITELY) not least the guys that enjoyed our stream and took part to them, interacting with the rest of the chat. It's always awesome to have you there guys, thank you!
The winners are Byron_exp, Cablenexus, Candramelekh, Davezissou, Pixel464, Wavell1940 and Zakblood!

We'll take care of changing the avatars on Slitherine's forum, while you can do it yourself on Matrix's forum. All the winners can use these little stickers in their signature as well.
For Zakblood and goose_2, we're going to give you as avatar the award we think suits you the most. If you want to change it, feel free to PM us and we'll do as soon as possible. Same goes for those who won the "Twitch Fidelity Award", if you want us to change your avatar PM us and we will!

Empires Apart Dev Diary - The goal of the game

Tuesday, March 13, 2018

In our previous dev diaries we focused on the different available game modes, as well as the design behind the UI. Today we are going to cover a number of different subjects, but all have something in common: why we decided to make Empires Apart.

It’s no secret that we drew heavy inspiration from games that marked our childhood: Age of Empires, Empire Earth, and others. We wanted to bring back that feeling, the familiar atmosphere of games we loved, but also add our own touch, as well as modernize the formula, bring it to 2018’s standards. Empires Apart is, basically, the game we wanted to play.

Desert War Mechanicics .Shock Explained

Tuesday, March 13, 2018

“Everyone was talking and chatting, when slowly came into sight the first tank I ever saw.  Not a monster but a very graceful machine with beautiful lines….  Here was the missing tool of penetration, the answer to the dominance on the battlefield of small-arms fire.”—J.F.C. Fuller

Matrix Games/Slitherine’s upcoming release of Brian Kelly’s Desert War 1940-42 uses a simple game mechanic often found in WWII board games.  It gives tank units a “special place” in the player’s toolbox—a positive shift to the combat force ratio if attacking, and the opposite when defending.  Coming up short of attack factors?  No problem!  Throw in some tanks.  A 1 to 1 attack can become a 2 to 1, 3 to 1, 4 to 1, etc.  In Desert War 1940
