1. Seven Days in October 1962 A classic account of the Cuban Missile Crisis. Best. Scenario. Ever.
2. Under African Skies
3. Canary's Cage
4. Israel Strikes
5. The Big Stick

Thanks to all the scenario designers for putting out such fantastic stuff.

When CMO was released all existing scenarios were re-released on Steam Workshop with Baloogan (If I remember correctly) listed as the author on the Steam Workshop page which has made it much harder to find new pre-CMO scenarios from the authors one really liked.

Excel file in the standalone version of the Community Scenario Pack lists all the scenario authors. In the next version (coming later this week) it will be included in the Steam version as well.

1. Beyond Kashmir
2. Escalation (Although I really, really hate DF21's now.)
3. Fiery Cross Reef
4. Hannukah War
5. Operation Broken Shield 300

Also, the "2022" series is fun. I don't think that has made it into the community scenario pack, but is easy to find on the workshop if you use steam

1) Goodnight, Irene
2) Curacao Crisis US-UK Intervention
3) Operation Brass Drum
4) Havana Daydreamin'
5) Nicaragua Missile Crisis

If you asked me tomorrow I'd probably give you a totally different answer as there are so many fantastic ones out there. It feels criminal that I haven't included any of Gunner98's Fury scenarios.

I always like something with a strong story and a long 'setup' period before hostilities begin. I also enjoy some of the more unconventional ones, like 'Two Cutters in the Gulf of Mexico' or the first Desert Storm scenario, just to make a change from the usual formula.

I very nearly put Frozen Seas 2022 into my list. I love how the Tonkas and Harriers are almost as useful as your 5th gen fighters.

1. North Pacific Shootout (reminds me of Top Gun)
2. Canary's Cage (Currently playing this one, it's a nice test of one's abilities in CMO in general)
3. The Four Horsemen, 1985 (Great challenge. If you beat it, you've mastered subs in this game. Also, I love Oscars).
4. Standing Naval Force Atlantic, 1979 (Good Cold War scenario, features ASW, ASuW, and AAW objectives and less-capable assets).
5. Operation Lightning Strike (a good lesson that the scalpel is sometimes better than the hammer).

Honorable Mentions go to Four Ships at Demon Point and TOPGUN GAT 5 & 6.

In no particular order, and without mentioning any of the excellent scenarios that have already been named:

1) Wargasm (Learn to stop worrying and love the Hound Dog as you take charge of a 1962 SAC B-52 wing charged with delivering nuclear war to the USSR. The scenarios is amazing, but the briefing for this one alone merits its mention)

2) Northern Fury 9: Hold the Line (A CVBG centered around the Enterprise desperately holds the line against two Soviet SAGs (well technically they have carriers, but do Soviet carriers really count?), plus Iceland-based aviation and Backfires from Kola in this epic "End of the Beginning" moment from Gunner's Northern Fury)

3) The V Bombers (the UK companion to Wargasm. You will most certainly miss not having the Hound Dog)

4) El Dorado Canyon (either the 1986 or 1996 versions) (USAF/USN strikes against Libya. The sheer level of detail alone Kushan put into this one merits its mention. I'm not sure there is a more detailed scenario from a historical accuracy standpoint)

5) Northern Inferno 10: An Eye for an Eye (like quite a few NI scenarios, this one comes across as rather contrived, but trying to carry out the unenviable task of striking Kola airfields with a single UK carrier is a thrilling, if daunting, challenge. A scenario that is most certainly not for anyone who is squeamish about strike aircraft losses, however)

Honorable mentions are "Blue Dawn" and "Nightmares" from Chains of War

I'm gonna add another honorable mention: To Kill A Mockingbird. The scenario represents the attempts of the PVO to shoot down the SR-71 Blackbird. Not only does one have to combat the Blackbird's legendary speed, flight ceiling, and jamming capabilities, but also the Soviet bureaucracy as the player can't shoot until they get permission from Moscow. It turns out different every time.

Almost any of the "Northern/Baltic/Med/Pacific/etc Fury" scenarios, in no particular order.

That's a good catch BobTank. On reflection, I'm adding that to my top 5.

Perhaps a bit off the subject, but some the best are the ones you make on your own. You learn a lot. Then leave it alone and play it a couple of months later. Players will be surprised how fresh and new your own scenario plays out.

I just started Northern Inferno, and already I have to add a new fav.

The Fast and the Furious is a great scenario that focuses on naval combat. You command a group of Norwegian FAC led by a pair of frigates with limited air support and you have to take on a Soviet landing force screened by a lot of missile boats. It is very challenging because while your ships pack a punch, they are outraged by most of the escorts in guns and you only have a limited supply of missiles. Your ships are also very vulnerable with even the transports able to do damage if given the chance. The scenario took me a couple of tries, but eventually, I won with the transports dying in an epic last-ditch rush by my FACs.

This is the best news I have had all week with my new Zen 3-based computer now up and running.

That is quite frankly a great deed done by the developers. Thanks for taking the time to tell me this, Kushan [:)]

Kevinkins has a great point too. I've found many scenarios on my harddrive not really remebering why I did this particular thing two years ago and had a very good time.
Also, for the smaller scenarios I listed such as Biddle's Team and Corvette group off Bressay (As well as others) it's very easy to add some unpredictability to the scenarios by making units spawn in areas with a chance of spawning, or perhaps set a chance for an unknown extra sub to spawn or set a chance for the game engine to modify the number of enemy aircraft slightly or add an extra missile battery perhaps - the possibilities with small scenarios are endless since an extra unit added or missing might make a interesting difference especially if the player does not know what is really there in the scenario.

Thanks to everybody else who responded too (although I realize you might not have responded for my benefit).

Anyways, now I have tons of what seems like great suggestions on what scenarios to play after having briefly checked out the scenarios listed here.

I am really grateful for the great response, especially to Kushan for that crucial piece of information!

Sorry to hijack, but I noticed a lot of people have "Under African Skies" in their top 5. I have a question about this scenario, is China always destined to go hostile? CMO makes scenarios ambiguous unless something is explicitly stated in the brief or special message and I always wonder if I goofed something up or if the actions are intentional. Guess that is replicating real world though.

If I may add one more that I forgot, Iron Hand 2014 is another great one. It's a SEAD operation where you have to take down specific systems in a Russian-style air defense setup. The trick is you have to do it as the Russians! Like Lightening Strike you are given a ton of assets and you have to choose which ones to use. You also get tactical ballistic missiles!
