1.01.07Beta hotfix - for users of 1.01.03 Public Beta

Post by Joel Billings »

I've attached a hotfix here for those of you who have installed the 1.01.03 Public Beta version. This fixes the issue preventing players from accessing Multiplayer in 1.01.03 (and has several other fixes/changes). If you do not yet have 1.01.03 installed, you should first install 1.01.03 as you would any Public Beta. Once that is done, you need to unzip the hotfix exe file into your main game directory (Gary Grigsby's War in the East 2). This is version 1.01.7, so once you've done this and started the game, you should see on the lower right of the main menu:
Version Installed 1.01.03Beta
Exe File Version 1.01.07_Beta
If you do not see the correct Version Installed number, you need to retry installing 1.01.03. If you do not see the correct exe file version, then you probably have not unzipped the exe file into the correct directory. Let us know if you have any problems with this, or you see any issues with the update. We will be working on getting a new installer built in the coming days, but wanted to get this out now given the MP issue was stopping MP games.

Here's the full change list for 1.01.07 (changes since 1.01.03):

New Features and Rule Changes
• Changed rules for isolated support/multi-role units inside HQs when the HQ displaces (either through relocate order or forced displacement). Now those units will be destroyed when the HQ displaces. As with surrenders, some small amount of men and equipment can escape to the pool.
• Reduced the number of fighters that are assigned by default to air transport missions.
• Reduced by 50% the chance of pilots being killed when an operational loss is recorded.

Bug Fixes and AI Improvements
• Can’t access MP games using 1.01.03 version. Fixed.
• Multi-role units can't convert back to be on map units (no 'Convert' showing in their unit detail screen). Fixed.
• CR screen - Location/Storage tab SU column always shows 0. Fixed.
• Export ports not receiving freight. Fixed.
• Units are sometimes surrendering when they should be routing instead. Fixed. Note: You may have to go through a logistics phase for the bug to be fixed in existing games as a unit’s data may already be corrupted in a way that would force it to surrender instead of routing.
• Partisans are operating less effectively than they should in non-campaign scenarios, especially in low partisan areas. Fixed.
• Corrected spelling of High (Hight) Water Mark in Multiplayer screen.
• AI assist naval ops setting bad stage base and not including nav patrol aircraft from Romanian Air Command. Improved.
• AI – Improved Axis AI line forming just north of the Sea of Azov in 1943.
• AI – Improved Axis pull back in Baltic States.

I get the following:

Version Installed 1.01.03Beta
Exe File Version 1.01.03_Beta

The unzipped GGWarInTheEast2-UpdateComp-v01.01.03Beta.exe is in the root directory.

Did you attach the wrong patch or did I do something wrong?[&:]

The attachment above is the executable alone, WarInTheEast2.exe

Once unzipped in the game folder should overwrite the one that came with the patch GGWarInTheEast2-UpdateComp-v01.01.03Beta.exe

This hotfix is not an installer program. You have to unzip it into the main game directory and run it from there. If you unzip it to some other folder, and then try to run it, you will get the error message. Make sure you unzip it into your game directory, or copy it there once you've unzipped it. The game directory will be something like C:\Matrix Games\Gary Grigsby's War in the East 2.

Joel,
Is this what the version in the game should look like?

Thank you.

I was a CTO and know what you did, but many or the community is older and not computer geeks.

You should remember that. If you did a survey, many shy away from labels: beta and mod.

We acknowledge that putting up a hotfix is not for everyone, and we encourage all that have issues using it to seek help here and ask questions. Questions posted here will help others that run into the same issues. If I'm short on my answers to people, please call me out and ask for more info. I only claim to be pseudo-technical, so I'm not always the best person to help with tech questions. Thankfully the community is full of tech savvy (and yes, often older) players that prove time and time again to be very helpful for those like me that struggle with tech issues. The old guys have been around long enough to know that there are a lot of us that don't know much about the inner workings of computers. Just ask my wife, a life long Mac user that doesn't understand why I bother to use a PC that requires so much from its users. [:)]

BTW, Matrix has the files for the 1.01.07 installer, and we hope it will be made available soon. Unfortunately, summer vacations do tend to slow things down all around. But I'm sure they will do their best (they put out the last installer update in record time).

We are all crossing our fingers and hoping that the 1.01.07 will hold up and make it to "official" status, but there's no telling until it gets out to those willing to try the public betas. That's par for the course for a game this complicated and that takes so long time to play through.

Hi Everyone,

As Joel has mentioned, we have the v1.01.07 installer ready to be downloaded. If you have already applied the hotfix provided, you can still use the installer to update. This will also ensure that the version installed and exe file version matches up (as JubJub highlighted)

There is also an updated Living manual 1.05 which replaces it's predecessor!

The update is available via the Store page https://www.matrixgames.com/game/gary-g ... the-east-2 or your 'My Page' area (if you are logged in and have the game registered)

Happy War-Gaming!

The top was never scaling, at least not intentionally. Only the right side scaling was added in 1.01.03. The top scaling is the next and final step in the in-game scaling project.
