Thinking a little bit. Wishlist for WP2:

1. Ability to target rail lines with air units to damage them and impact a little supply
2. Ability to target any hex with air units to increase operation points of land units to move into them (roads, bridges destroyed)
3. Ability to build supply depots, depot that maybe captured
4. Supply depots will enhance supply trucks. Only units in range of supply depots will be allowed to have supply trucks.
5. Ability to perform naval interdiction by air unit when path of the surface / sub naval unit is in range NOT only at the end point location of the naval movement
6. Revamp air units to have them contained fighters / bombers and assign each of them several missions
7. In particular, a better management of the carrier based planes. I really want to be able to do CAP with my carrier based fighters while my carrier based bombers are targeting other stuff. I want a clear separation of fighters, dive bombers and torpedo bombers
8. A clear separation of counters between CV group and carrier based planes. If CV is sunk, the CV planes may land on a friendly island / land in range
9. Better simulation of transport or MM ships needed to supply port. Ability to prioritize which island / port must be supplied first
10. Weather forecast for both sides
11. Ability to split, merge armor corps. I want to see armor division (French, Hungary, ...). French won't be allow to merge armor divisions into armor corps.
12. Ability to merge armor corps and mechanized corps into tank armies for the Soviets only
13. Radar stations to build to improve interception chance of enemy bombers
14. Sub pens (as requested by Flaviusx in the other thread)
15. Soviet artillery corps (as requested by Flaviusx)
16. Ability to build and place false units on the map (maskirovka) or to prevent the enemy to see which unit type is there or to display a tank corps for the enemy whereas the unit is just an infantry corps (radio deception)
17. Ability for air unit to have a recon mission to discover enemy unit types
18. Limited land stacking depending on the size of units in the hex? Not sure if needed
19. Change background color of counters for elite units (guard units, SS, ..)
20. Better looking map

21. A setting to chose maximum mission range setting for air units (or if not possible, a possibility to toggle for 0 range [own hex only] vs max range).
22. Different handling of Vichy (especially if Axis rescind the... next turn) and Vichy forces (fleet with locations, names etc.).
23. Ship been able to intercept from port (with a toggle to chose which ships would be "on duty" for that).
24. Italian frogmen (just because it is cool; do not care of the probabilities of a result).
25. Heavy escorts (BBs CAs...) allowed for convoy and engaging (a chance at least) raiders.
26. Italian divisions (no mater how bad they are).
27. Knowing opponent's max tech on map (at least for land and air units). Not for each units, only the max we noticed at one point.
28. Air counters changing look with tech. [:)]
29. Individual BBs and CVs like in WPP.
30. Different naming protocol (For example, Soviet should have air divisions and not air armies if is specialized like now and Guard statut should be earned; whole submarine flotillas should not have the name of a single sub.). We can change the names now of course, but it is a lot of work.
31. Keep Front HQs for Soviets with the 5 range but give Army HQ for all others (except maybe Germany) with a much smaller range (2-3 hexes?). Give more free ones to compensate and ajust price. Germany could either then have Army HQs as well or Army Groups HQs equivalent to fronts with the actual range (I would prefer Army Groups)
32. All BBs started before the war should arrive free (Impero and Roma for example).
33. Ability for severely damaged capital ships to (sometimes) take months to repair in some cases. Max is now 10 weeks for BBs, 8 for others)
34. Ability to scrap very severely damaged naval units.
35. Ability to toggle the order of appearance of units in an hex.

Option 21 would be great. Many times I've wished I could control the range of my airforce so that it doesn't get baited. Right now the air war is a bit binary: you either have air dominance and keep everything on full support or you don't and stand everything down. Range settings would help the weaker air force contest air space locally. It's possible to do this only by positioning air just so, and it's very fiddly and not always possible to pull off due to terrain.

Many of the others are also interesting.

7bis. In the same CV naval stack, I want the ability to decide which CV fighter group in on full support, which CV dive bomber group is on mission only, ...
36. Ability to buy half army for Soviets not only full army
37. Rework advancements because some of them seem never used

My biggest item by far would be secure PBEM. At minimum, for any PBEM game, whenever any move is made, make a log entry on the server which can be review by the opposing player after the end of the game.

Make this point 38 I suppose.

I don't like point 1, point 2 is enough.

18 - no thanks.

19 - absolutely no, I never build and don't want to see SS units.

Simplicity has value, be careful you don't want the game to become too complicated.

Agree, I don't want to complicate the game. The only thing complicated in my list is point number 9. I would like a better naval interception mechanism for port supply actually really costing ships to your opponent. That's all and I was thinking of an elegant solution based on two buttons for priority.

But, you know, this is a brainstorming and a wishlist. I don't want to comment if this or this is good or not.

Well indeed. I can only guess that even if a designer designs game for the masses and to sell, he will still only design the game that he will himself like to play (would be kind of masochist if not and probably not as good as a result since passion is important for ideas).

So lets just give our wish list and if he likes them, good [:)]

38. Have three options for bombers on full support: intercept naval units; support land units; or do both what ever comes first. Right now it is either both or just support land units.

No a biggie, but hey, it is a wish list[:)]

Here are some more

39. Allow all ports to be blockaded.

40. Reduce captured size 9 ports to size 5 until the end of the game or some other variation to all captured ports.

41. Reroute UK convoys when the capital moves to the Pacific Ressources. The North Atlantic & Arctic routes should move north of Iceland and the South Atlantic should change to the Central Atlantic and connect to the Caribbean route.

42. Range circles for ships similar to those for air units. I find myself counting sea hexes pretty often. Or some way to measure the distance in hexes between two hexes.

43. The ability to place private or public notes and/or icons on map to mark battles or way points of significance.

44. I'd love to be able to save and view a recorded play by play & turn by turn of a game and play it later. This would be great for AARs and when a game is resigned or over. Either a one side version or both.

45. Historical combat logs for all turns instead of only the current and last.

46. I'd like to have the actual math in the combat log to see how modifiers and conditions are applied and combat results are calculated.

47. An improved undo button that allows for undo when buying units, during unit deployment and garrison mode.

A LOT more stuff added to the editor so that many changes can be tested there.
It is SO much work to get a BETA made to see if something is better or worse.

Lots of changes that I like. I think WP 2 will be a global one so that will open a whole new can of worms of problems and we will need to think globally.

For example the economy. As it is now it looks very difficult to build the ships that were built in the real war and what if a player wont build those ships and build airplanes and armour corps instead will that be a problem?

Lots of things to think about for now I only have one idea.

48. Changed weather. Because of severe weather effects the game is mostly active May to September and pretty inactive October to April. I would like to tone down the effect of snow and possibly blizzard too so there can be more action on the eastern front as there was historically during the winter. The rain turns should be the inactive turns. To stop the Germans so they wont stomp into France in the winter 39/40 for example I think the solution is that there will have to be more rain turns and less snow turns in the temperate zone.

One thing that needs to be surely set is I think it needs to be global. The UK does not build all the CVs and ships that they needed in the Pacific because they are Europe only. That would definitely have an effect on their PP totals and use.

Add to that they could send their entire carrier fleet to the Pacific early to hamper the Japanese...which may or may not be good for the game.

I like the thought but it could cause huge issues. BUT if the transfer of the CVs took 2 months...maybe that would be okay.

Then if the German navy got brave the UK would have to wait months to get their CVs back to counter them.


But I will reiterate...


ANTHING that they can get in the editor is all that much better for us as players and testers.

Regarding your blizzard changes...I agree...I think the Russians should get less movement penalties due to their tanks being built to handle snow and troops being prepared for snow.
Add to that the Fins should even be unaffected mobility wise...as they heavily deployed ski troops.

BUT for the Finns that is minor flavor enhancements.

Global will oblige the US player to invest in advancements for land, air and naval units. With Europe only, they can go for land, air and just escorts.

Global will also oblige the USSR player to wonder if Japan will attack them or not. Except if the non agression treaty between USSR and Japan is scripted...
Not sure how or if diplomacy will be introduced in Warplan 2.

49. Fog of war regarding forces and casualties of your enemies. Today, you can see exactly the forces of Soviet Union for example. Even see if units were disbanded or not... My wish is to have an evaluation but with a random error factor so that you don't know immediately the number of armies the Soviets have built on turn 1 of Barbarossa. We could have a range instead of the exact number.

Same for the casualties.

50. Fog of war on the naval combat results. In WPP, in the sunk ship tab, it would be great if an enemy capital ship could be declared sunk whereas this is not the case (only for badly damaged capital ships). For example, the Yorktown was declared sunk by the Japanese during the battle of the Coral Sea but it was indeed there at Midway.

I find them interesting: 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 11, 12, 21, 22, 23, 25, 27, 34, 37, 38, 39, 41, 42, 47.

My wishes:
51) Shipyards attached to ports. It does not seem logical to have 60 shipyards and not have controlled ports.
52) Limitation to constructions, mainly paratroopers, tanks and airplanes.
53) That the shipyards give "naval PP" free, maximum naval PP free to build a naval unit 50%. For example 10% of the shipyards = naval PP x turn.
54) Convoy escorts that are an important defense against convoy attacks, but do very little damage to submarines, and subs hunt bonuses protect merchants little, but do much damage to submarines.
55) That the bombardment of a hex can eliminate or damage anti-aircraft.
56) Merge MM and naval transports in the same unit, and that their use can be assigned in the convoy screen.
57) Land and air units 10/10STR, and that can be combined as the navy, 3 land units and 2 air units.
58) Weak ZOC, +1 movement points, retreating hex but in other units' ZOC = weak ZOC.
59) Garrison Units = Weak ZOC
60) Conbined units of less than 10STR without ZOC.
61) Expand table of casualties. Infantry / Armored / fighters / Bombers / Strategic bombers / CV / BB / CA-DD / Subs / MM / escorts / PP sunk / PP bombed /
62) More functional construction screen.
63) Wish 10, to know the following weather for both sides, is complicated, the following way occurs. Same weather for. Turn 1 axis, turn 1 ally, and turn 2 axis. Weather change and held for ally turn 2, axis turn 3, and ally turn 3, and so on. Weird but I think effective.
64) That the units recover after their turn, 50% at the end of the axis turn, and another 50% after the allied turn.
65) That they can be stacked up to 4 units (10/10STR) divisions but only defend-attack 3 units and have a penalty for this. To be able to move units without having to remove others.
66) CV, BB, CA units of a single unit, and that only count as casualties if they are sunk, the damage is not counted in the casualty table.

Thanks for all the input everyone. A fair number of these items are already on the WP2 list. If some don't get implemented they are still considered and are constructive that might lead to something else being added.

With all these suggestions I think I will have to rename WarPlan 2 to.... War in the OMG THIS GAME IS F!@#$% HUGE!

I would like to see an "un-buy" option as well.

This may sound silly, but when I buy a large infantry corps and fail to read the assigned name and it goes into production as a motorized corps, I would like to be able to redo that. Also sometimes I go a big crazy buying support gear and after having bought them wish I could have deleted some of those orders.

I have no problem with the "delete build" on only the turn it is bought.
