Rename specific model iterations

Post by Elver »

It's a small thing, but it would be nice if we could re-name particular model iterations. E.g., if I design a model type and name it Infantry, right now I'll get Infantry, Infantry II, etc. However, looking at formation customization, if I customize Light Infantry Corps, I can either go with the default of Light Infantry II Corps, or rename it to Heavy Infantry Corps, Scout Infantry Corps, Ranger Corps, etc. The underlying naming convention remains the same - a formation based on my Ranger Corps will still default to Light Infantry III Corps - but it allows more satisfying specificity. In terms of models, it would be far more satisfying since at some point a model iteration will be obsoleted and only appear in militias/minor regime armies - it would be nice to allow my nation to have distinctive names w/o having those names show up everywhere else. It'd also be quite welcome for aircraft, where a particular airframe model can be used for diverse roles - my superheavy bomber doesn't need to be called a Stork if I want my superheavy transport to have that name, nor does the transport need be called an Obliterator or suchlike.

Yes, it's similar - though I have to say given how formation customization works, it looks like just allowing manual renaming of model iterations is a lot more compatible with the underlying data structures than creating custom automated naming schema.
