Tutorial

So I thought I would take a look at the manual.....

It says in there that there's a tutorial document for those wishing to 'jump right in'. But I haven't come across a tutorial anywhere. Does it exist? Thanks.

The best Tutorial is a Guadalcanal PBEM. I am also getting back into the game and I noticed I forgot some of the nuances and basics of it. Drop me a line if you'd like a PBEM match to re-acquire the game's amazing mechanics etc.

I think that Coral Sea as the Allies should be first.

Yeah, Coral Sea as the Allies, then as Japan, at least once or twice each to get the basics of CV battles and some surface action.

Then, Guadalcanal, possibly both sides too.

Optionally, but still interesting, the Thousand Miles War (Aleutians) is a good step.

Very kind, Obst Klink. I've done Coral Sea and TMW a few times, but I'm playing against the AI, doing Guadalcanal now. Due to RL I haven't really enough time to play PBEM matches without feeling under time pressure (which is not the point of a game, I've decided...), because sometimes I have time to move each week or whatever, sometimes not. Frequently not. So, thus far, I'm learning via the AI. Thanks though.

Andy, have you kept a bookmark of a link to your description of Brit/Aus/NZ/Can manpower reinforcement constraints?

Randy Stead was asking about squad upgrades to AIF 42, and organising himself a cascade of upgrades through the brigades late that year, but the point about 6 x jungle TOE divisions being supported might have been lost over the last decade.

Given the complexity of the game I feel the best would be to play with a tutor that follows you! Be it via sharing screen or else, and being on voicecomm (like Discord or Skype!).

Randy Stead’s threads have been heavily commented upon by numerous veterans, be they about Coral Sea or Guadalcanal. Lots of useful infos to glean.

Otherwise, there’s also the possibility of reading an AAR, like Sardaukar’s excellent series of Newbie AAR’s, in which he explains a lot of things for new players.

Lokasenna's AAR has videos showing what he is doing.
