Training units in shq

Post by hugh04 »

Normally I just recruit units to shq and they start at 0 exp(green). Has anyone tried to put veteran units back into the shq pool to accelerate training times?

I think whatever happens troops will only train until 10 without combat in shq or field. Prolly in manual.

Also don't think other troops in hex/shq affect times but could be wrong.

From my experience it wouldn't be worth it. Free/noncombat EXP gain seems to basically stop at around 25exp, as that's the amount that my subunits will have regardless of it I leave them in the SHQ or put into formations. Barracks generate training points which increases this exp gain, as does the field training posture, but generally the best training aid is getting them into some combat.

Free Experience Points
There is free Experience gain without combat up to around 20 XP.
This can be (much) higher if you have Experience Classes Regular, Seasoned
or Veteran present in the Unit.
It can also be higher if your Relation with the Commander is >50 (and
inversely lower if Relation is lower<50). Relation plays an important role in
the willingness to make a maximum effort.
Basic increase per round is +2 XP, but this can be higher if you have non-
Green Veterancy Class present in the Unit.
It can also be higher when certain Postures are chosen for the Formation
like “Field Training”.
Veterancy Levels
These levels bring specific extra benefits. Notably, the benefit that the Unit
with more Veteran Troops in it will be better able to train newly arrived
green replacement Troops.

However the 2nd best Training is having them in the same unit as some higher Veterancy Level troops.

Personally I tend to have some reserves in the SHQ. Something like 1 MG and 2-3 Infantry for every Batallion of a Light MG Brigade. It gives them some time to train up for when they are needed and they cost me the same Food and Salary.
When getting outdated gear with skileld crew back, I tended to leave them around for defense and training purposes. But now the game automatically replaces gear keeping the experienced troops at the front, so that trick no longer workers.

Overall however this training is to get green replacements up to the same veterancy level as who they are replacing.
