DasTactic Icons - Mroyer Terrain Combined Mod

DasTactic-Mroyer Terrain Mod


DasTactic-Mroyer Terrain Mod (v1.0) Download

Instructions:
Download and unpack the zip file
Copy the unpacked \GraphicsAlt folder to Shadow Empire game folder
(typically C:\Matrix Games\Shadow Empire\GraphicsAlt)



DasTactic was kind enough to forward me his icon imagery so that I can overlay it onto the
mroyer-terrain mod combining the two, as some folks here have requested.

It turned out that in certain situations some DasTactic icons would sort-of melt into the terrain,
so I added a bit of a drop-shadow to them to give some relief. Also, in some spots the
hex-terrain-transition layer covers part of a DasTactic icon. Not much I can do about that
due to the order of layering in the game engine. I'd have to completely redo the terrain
transition imagery.

I like the idea of this and long may people find the time to put such effort into the like, but I can't use it; the uber-contrast on the trees and mountains is overpowering. Not a huge fan of the new escarpments either (for similar reasons).

Thanks for this great combination, it’s going to be a huge improvement on readability of the map.

I basically got the zoomed-in and zoomed-out map sizes done. Then I got extra-busy at work and had to slow down on this for a bit. I just need to finish up the middle-zoom map as soon as I can.

this kind of icons would be really great as an map overlay.

Can it be somehow linked with MAP LAYERS, lets say show color or show grid?

I'd try, but dont know if its just hard coded color overlay/ grid, or it some part of the graphics folder.[&:]

Yeah, that's been talked about - some way to toggle the icons on and off. As far as I know that's not possible for a mod at this time.
I'm with you - I'd like to be able to turn them off. They could be a great toggled resource, but I probably won't use it myself as I find them distracting to be permanently affixed in the hex.

Is this updated to 2.4 of the underlying mod, I assume not and it's out of date now?
I've been beta testing myself for decades.

It is, for sure, up to date with the mroyer v2.4 terrain mod, and as far as I know it's up to date with the latest DasTactic v1.1 terrain mode. (Unless DasTactic has slipped in some updates I'm unaware of.)

At it's core, all graphics mods are really just overwriting vanilla files.
And I do not think that any new terrain types have been added since the first EA release.

Yeah, as far as I know this is correct.
But I think Bleek was referring to the two terrain mods' versions, and not related to the actual game-engine terrains.

My game experience improved much because of this mod! Suddenly I discovered interesting terrain and choke points that I had not noticed before. I have less good sight so this (plus another trick of changing the horrible game font) makes the game much more enjoyable.
