James Cobb passed away

Post by thewood1 »

He has written wargame reviews for decades, including Command reviews for Wargamer.com

I picked the news up from grogheads...

I think his handle was Bismark on this forum.

if it's the same james cobb who was bismarck71 on steam, i did wonder why i'd not heard from him or hasn't logged into steam for 18 days now :(

RIP and do hope it's not the same guy, as he was a real gem

I think his latest was the Moltke handle. At one time, he used Bismark.

I just checked, Bismark was his author name on wargamer.com. I just crossed them up.

yes just looked at Moltke71 profile here and the names match, have sent out some message to see if anyone else knows anything, as while older than me by quite a bit, he was a great reviewer of games and shared a common love of war games

The Facebook post stated his wife died shortly after his passing. That's all I know at this point.

i made friends with him after he posted a great review on a game i had tested for a friend on steam, he bought the game himself, reviewed it and was honest and very helpful at the time and while we didn't speak on a daily or weekly basis, i did enjoy our talks and chats and did like the same games and loved his reviews and interests, so will be sadly missed

These are truly sad news. James Cobb was a staple not only in the reviewing community, but in the wargaming community at large :(

I do seem to remember a post of his, years ago, where he openly revealed that he suffered from some sort chronic illness - but, as I said, it was long ago: I don't remember the details.

Sad news indeed.

"Oh dad... so you were a God-damned cook?"

He's done a review on every one of my LIVE scenarios, we've had quite some discussion on a few points. Very honest and upstanding guy. He will be missed.

RIP

Coincidentally, because Jim wrote most of his reviews there, wargamer.com was just sold.

Thanks to the thewood1 for altering us to Jim's passing. While sad, I am happy a classic war gamer like Jim was able to enjoy PC gaming the past 20 years.
