Tutorial '43 - Combat
Right peeps, you know the drill by know where to put the folder/file.
Slides will follow later, but you're free to toy around. Play as Soviets and you got a Guards Airborne Brigade, as well as a quite potent Guards Tank Corps with support troops at your disposal; play the Germans and our old friends from Tutorial '42 and '43 are there - 106th Inf.Div., who's 1st Bn. of each Rgt. got equipped with one company of Panzerfaust units as well as more potent (relatively speaking...) 50mm AT guns. It's going to be a tough call...
The map and the original Kanev '43 scenario were designed by Frederic Schaaff. The scenario itself was based on a great boardgame, Kanev: Parachutes Across the Dnieper, September 1943

Pre-tutorial slides feedback appreciated!

RE: Tutorial '43 - Combat - Update
Some of you might have noticed, that no PO option was available; that has been fixed. Sorry, peeps; I just forgot to set objectives for one formation of the Soviets.
Updated .SCE file attached (zipped).
Fixed: Proficiency for the Gds Airborne units (instead of 33 now 60)
Adjusted: RR bridge in the SE prevented for some reason troop movement; added road.
Adjusted: Relocated supply points.
Fixed: Some minor adjustments to the supply level and dislocation of the units.

RE: Tutorial '43 - Combat - Update
More slides will show up this afternoon... Please do make sure that you use the latest .SCE file though in order to follow, as close as possible. I'll also publish the .SAL files (zipped) later on. If you already played through or toyed around with it, please do post any forms of feedback and suggestions.

RE: Tutorial '43 - Combat - Update
OK, back to our little problem. We need to eliminate the paras and therefore keep our rear clean in order to get reinforcements (if we get any?!) to counter the main threat; as plain and simple.

The situation at T3 and... a good example of the variable turn initiative
Instead of a Soviet turn, we got to execute our T3 before them; plus we got 1 Grn.Rgt. reinforcements in the SW and we can manage to finally round up the paras near the bridge and the vicinity of Kanev!

RE: Tutorial '43 - Combat - Update
I haven't moved/executed the turn yet, with the exception of the 3 x Aufkl.Kp. (one couldn't disengage though). Well, just to point you to the I/Grn.Rgt.239... and its
goodies. 9 squads go the new Panzerfaust!!! How neat... they're dug-in and we'll see
quite soon how they can inflict some damage on potential soviet tanks (I hope...).

A bit (O)ff(T)opic: For those of you, and I am sure there are quite many rather than a few, who are wondering how the combat system works 'under the hood'; it's worth examining the toawlog.txt. I use Notepad++ (very good program!) to read the .txt out and use bits even for, well, AARs and kinda little TOAW IV combat report stories. Notice the highlighted information? Artillery really does smash fortifications and entrenchment rates, eh?

RE: Tutorial '43 - Combat - Update
The situation at T4; this time we the Soviets had 2 turns in a row. Oh well. Our Grn.Btl. put up a good fight and it seems this new 'Wunderwaffe'(?!) for the infantry did cause some damage to the enemy's armour; no T-34 though... yet. As for the rest, see for yourself. I am confident we're in a very good position to deal with the rest of the paras within a day or so; then we'll face the juggernaut in the NW.

P.S. Do allow me a short beer break and I shall be back after a divisional staff meeting.

RE: Tutorial '43 - Combat - Update
Situation and projected movements/attacks at T6. It's obvious that the main bulge of the Soviets are posed to head towards Kanev. Good. I'll deal with the paras in the SE, reinforce Kanev with 2/3 of the Grn.Rgt elements and send some units north.

End of T6, we done OK, 'cept the attack with the Pz.Abw.Abtl... but the losses are neglectable... only material, not manpower.
