500 Test Wickets - James Anderson.

Post by durangokid »

James Anderson has become the sixth bowler and the first Englishman to take 500 wickets in Test cricket.

Only two seamers – Australia legend Glenn McGrath and West Indies great Courtney Walsh – had previously reached the landmark while spinners Anil Kumble, Shane Warne and Muttiah Muralitharan all surpassed 600.

This obviously doesn't mean much if you're not a cricket fan, but every sports fan recognises great milestones and this is one.

Congratulations to James Anderson, so well deserved.

Is there any talk of him retiring after the Australian tour? 35 isn't so old but fast bowling takes a toll on the body. Often players decide to hang up the boots after a big tour.

England will need Anderson and Broad in form because if Australia can keep them fit, Starc, Hazelwood and Cummins backed by the spin of Lyon at home looks a formidable bowling line-up.

Anderson has said he could play in the 2021-22 Ashes as he is still so fit, but that sounds like wishful thinking.

The Ashes - we'll be looking for an improvement over the 5-0 whitewash of 2013-14.[;)] Let's face it, we couldn't do any worse. Cheers, Durango.
