Prosecution area not working?

Post by Gneckes »

Hey guys,

I just tried myself at the "Canary's Cage" scenario, and as part of my fleet-guarding efforts, I set up an AAW patrol mission around my two battlegroups, with a relatively small Patrol Area and a larger Prosecution Area.
Soon, my AEW helos spotted and classified 3 F-16C Blk42 Fighters approaching. They were also marked as Hostile straight away.
However, none of the 4 fighter groups I had on station responded to the targets entering the Prosecution Area, and as a result, the F-16s got the first salvo of Sparrows off against my Harriers.
In fact, manually ordering my fighters to attack did nothing either, even when I set "Ignore plotted course when attacking" to Yes.
What am I doing wrong with my AAW patrol mission?

Did you check ROE on the patrol to make sure they will go after hostiles outside the patrol zone?

I thought the whole idea behind the Prosecution Area was to allow me to engage units outside the Patrol Area without making them chase after every contact on the map?

You may want to check to see if you have 'Investigate Targets outside Patrol Zone' checked to ON. If off, they will not leave the Patrol Zone even if you have a Prosecution zone designated.

Well OK, I will try that. My problem with that is that, according to the Mega-FAQ, when I check that box, my units are free to investigate/engage any contact on the map.
Still, better than losing planes.

That comment was probably made before Prosecution zones existed, as that used to be the case. When the box is ticked AND there is a prosecution zone - your AC will investigate within the bounds of the prosecution zone and no further.
