75mm KWK 40 L/48

The development team behind the award-winning games Decisive Campaigns: From Warsaw To Paris and Advanced Tactics is back with a new and improved game engine that focuses on the decisive year and theater of World War II! Decisive Campaigns: Case Blue simulates the German drive to Stalingrad and into the Caucasus of the summer of 1942, as well as its May preludes (2nd Kharkov offensive, Operation Trappenjagd) and also the Soviet winter counter-offensive (Operation Uranus) that ended with the encirclement of 6th Army in Stalingrad and the destruction of the axis minor armies. With many improvements including the PBEM++ system, this is a release to watch for wargamers!

75mm KWK 40 L/48

Post by MTTODD »

Hi,

Was surprised to see that the hard attack value of L/48 is 85, which is lower than the T34 76mm (86).

Everything I have read has the L/48 as having a higher AP value than the Soviet 76mm.

Can anyone explain this ?

Cannot see how this is right.

Many thanks for any help.

Just to clarify my post.

I was comparing a PZ IVG(HA 85) with a T34(HA 86) .

Surprise that T34 has higher HA when PZ IVG has a superior gun.

Is it because the hard attack value also takes into consideration other factors, such as mobility etc.

Many thanks for any help.,

I think Hard Attack is the capability of a unit to engage hard targets, so, as you write, this is everything from caliber to ammunition, optics, turret rotation speed, communication equipment, doctrine, etc.

Hi,

No I found out the following from Vic:

Tank HA formula : 10 + gun mm

So Pz IVg : 10 + 75 = 85

T34 : 10 + 76 =86

There will be exceptions to this rule, for example the Pz IVf with short barrelled 75mm has a HA of only 38.

But mostly above rule applies, check out some tanks in the game yourself.

Vic says he will look into changing the Pz IVg in the next patch to reflect the effectiveness of the 75mm L/48.

Many thanks.

Interesting. I think it is a bit simplified for some tanks. KV-1 and T-34 has the same gun = same HA, but the KV-1 had poor visibility for the crew and was a lot slower, which I think should result in worse HA. Of course it has much better HD compensate.

I wonder if there are similar rules for other unit types? Ie. 45mm AT gun has HA 28, while the 76mm AT has HA 43 .

Hi,

Below is the formula that Vic showed me, with the disclaimer that :

its from my design document and sometimes I change things and forgot to make notes. But it should be 90-100% correct.

Have attached and embedded document

BTW, you can change all these value's in the editor and many others as well.
There are a few things in there which I think were done for play balance.
An example is the negative modifier that some equipment gets during the first round of engagement. How many attacks it can perform, etc...

In the editor, click on the top button "SFT". Select the equipment type you want to see and you'll be able to see all the combat stats, etc...

When you change a value in the editor does that get selected in the current scenarios ?

Or does it only apply for new user made ?

Many thanks.
