Hi Everyone,
I'd like to present a work-around that has really sorted out my Artillery Screen issues.
One caveat: I run my game on a generic HP Win 8 - 64 bit box, so YMMV on an earlier OS. (it shouldn't though)
What I have done is mapped one of my mouse buttons (in my case the wheel button) to activate the Shift key + the Left Mouse Button simultaneously.
It's like holding down the Shift key and left-clicking on the button/hex but better, waaaaaaaay better.
I dunno why this works.
It just does.
Extensive testing took place over the weekend. I haven't really been inclined to play the game lately (bunged up my shoulder awhile ago - too sore and cranky) but after I stumbled upon this I was gobsmacked.
Health be damned, this is one of the holy quests!
One click.
100% of the time.
This is what you need.
- At least a 3 button, preferably a 5 button wheel mouse.
- Software to map the mouse buttons.
I figured this out using a program called X-Mouse Button Control. It's a solid, well supported piece of freeware. You can get the latest version HERE!!!!
1 - Install X-Mouse.
2 - Find the X-Mouse icon chillin' away on the Taskbar. Right click for menu, left click Setup.
3 - Click the Add button, hunt down the mech.exe file. Select and click OK
mech.exe is now in the Profiles window, highlight mech.exe and now you can assign specific tasks to each control.
*continuing with my example*
4 - Open the drop-down menu beside Middle Button, scroll down to click on Simulated Keys (undefined). In the field of the next window copy and paste this:
{SHIFT}{LMB}
click OK and you're done
5 - repeat step 4 for the other controls (key in appropriate letter/function).
6 - when satisfied, click Apply and then Close.
Now you've mapped the mouse, next up is your brain.
Go on, fire up the game.
Try it out.
See if you can get used to using the new control. Took me about half an hour.
Oh Yeah, this also works in the main Battle Screen when you want to stack units.

Gary can cram him monstrosity titles and their obsession with too much and too complex to be remotely realistic use of good game time. I wish he'd make a Steel Panther's successor instead. My money spent on War in the Pacific, and War in the East was the same as a drunk spending money on booze. I never should have bought them. Gary, those games don't cut it even by a fraction in comparison. They don't impress me, and any awards you have gotten for them, I couldn't care less.
If there isn't enough gamers for Steel Panthers, there is even less for monster games like WitE and WitP but the latter are dominating the last decade.ORIGINAL: Yogi the Great
Now I have to buy almost entirely on-line and even that is becoming more of a problem. Perhaps we are just too small of a market for a company to want to focus on. Perhaps they don't see enough profit potential. Many if not most of those reading this thread will buy from and support a company that provides us with the proper type and quality of game. Are there enough of us? The state of pc gaming tends to suggest that many companies don't think so.

A reboot of Steel Panthers really is the only game I'm truly waiting for. We need a monster tactical game. The recent tactical wargames are either boardgame conversions which means they are very abstract by nature or it's 3D i.e Combat Mission X2 and Graviteam tactics (both amazing games). We need a proper top down either WEGO or turn based in depth, uber detailed monster tactical wargame. A game that models things in great detail from weather to individual solider moral, from close combat to vehicle component damage. One which does alot but isn't a click fest and has good command and control movement mechanics. Would model leaders down to squad level. Would model off map arty in detail including things like modifiers due to weather\atmospherics. Model radio comms historically. Multi level buildings including sewers. Fortifications like trench networks and dug outs. Realistic ballistics model. Include all types of Inf so we can have paratroops or Serbian ski troops etc etc. Model resupply and reinforcements. Bridge building by pioneers (including different types of bridge). Have a good camo system and have things like Japanese spider traps aswell as underground tunnel systems. A decent air aspect with pilot skill and strafing tactics\STUKA dive bombing (Stuka have a moral hit aswell). Things like concussion modeled so troops could be killed by concussion due to close proximity. Detailed SOP settings from squad to individual weapon settings (that way you can give the squads lmg different SOPD's to the riflemen.
Orders will be carried out aswell as that units leader can. SO you set the SOP's. Then give your units their orders for the battle. Once under way if you want to change the order for a unit and they have a radio you can get the order to them quickly, however if they don't you have to send a messenger so takes time. So alot of the planning will be done before you hit start and after that you'll be adjusting on the fly with command delays and relying on your Officers and nco's.
Have a decent rpg aspect when it comes to your troops so you feel attached.
Give the player lots of decisions yet at the same time not to complicated to play.

I just had read mass e-mail send by Major Mess. It seems SPWAW Depot is right now doing that on their own. One installer which includes SPWAW 8.403, Enhanced mod, updated encyclopedia, removed duplicates, and then some. What took you so long?Create a new install file, one that’s all patched up to 8.403. One that starts the game through a mech.exe shortcut (ask if you don’t know what I’m talking about). It’s easy, freeware installers can do this, so can your paid software.
Clear out some of the cruft, if you wish I can send you a slimmed down version for review.
