Crickets and Echoes

Post by jeffk3510 »

Hello all that are around these days.

I mainly play WiTPAE, but have taken up a CS challenge from fellow gamer and friend schanilec.

We will play East Front.

Scenario "The Claw of the Tiger"

I will take the Russians and he will handle the Germans.

I also have an ongoing PBEM in AE against bilbow and hartwig.modrow with team members denisonh and nashvillen. Take a look if you would like.

Here is the opening position for the Russians.

I will receive no additional reinforcements, and I have to use what I have at start. Proceeding NW from my position should lead to immediate action, and I am guessing the Germans are dug in with AT guns.

I am planning on moving units SW first below the forest that is directly SW of their position. I am guessing it is a mix of inf, inf guns, AT guns, MG platoons, and tanks, probably Tigers. Scenario information at start helps reinforce this.

I am confident in my T34s ability and will swing around and come in on their right flank. I don't plan on any opposition other than around the Victory locations.

Basically have my ten T34s units swing way left and then come in from the west, while my inf (four squads of SMG platoons, one AT inf, and one 76mm AT gun) will move through the cover of the forest and hopefully draw the majority of attention, and let the tanks swoop in and mop up.

Not sure if the Germans have reinforcements or not. I didn't look at the other side to see what they have at scenario start.

Here is how I plan to use my forces.

I don't have an artillery to use on tough infantry positions.

I plan on using the trees and ridges to get my infantry as close as possible to the ridges and spring out of the trees as fast as possible, with as much surprise as possible.

I am guessing he thinks I will come due NW up the road and into the teeth of his forces.

With a few turns of inactivity up front, I am guessing he will catch on, so I must act quick as possible.

I do have a 76mm AT gun I forgot to mention. I will post it on the small ridge to the west that has a clear shot north and east, covering the victory locations to the east and any approach to the ridge. This will cover the infantry and support the tanks I am guessing. With a hard rg of 12 and a soft of 6, I think that is plenty from the small hill.

Looking through things again, I originally thought this was a 20 turn scenario and it is only 10.

I have adjusted my plan so that my tanks down swing as far west, and have a shorter route to get there in time.

Turn sent back to Marc

Never seen this game before in my life. Nice graphics though. Would you say that gameplay is roughly akin to Combat Mission?

IGO/UGO or WEGO format?

Will you be able to effect your wide left hook in under 10 turns movement? Will you still have sufficient room / time for manuever?

Wow, this forum IS dead. *One* other AAR, and that was back in April? [:D]

We need some AE'ers to come and slum over here for a while. No danger of being pushed back to the second page! [:D]

Yes, IGO/UGO.

JT's Campaign Series combines East Front, West Front, and Rising Sun into one game. They were original Talonsoft games back in the day. This, CWG2, and Age of Empires was all there was to play growing up!!

They're a BLAST to play. A lot of scenarios.

I am having trouble showing a full screenshot, as it can only be 200ks to upload.

Any suggestions?

That is why I mentioned maybe having an OT AAR in the WiTPAE forum lol.

I plan on doing a bunch of these. They go by fast, and Marc and I really like to play them.

See above post, as I just discovered it was ten, not twenty turns. I am taking the tanks more on the original Inf route, and the Inf one turn due west, and then north through the forrest.

This could lead to a German victory if I don't act fast.

How to post a full, zoomed in screen shot, that isn't a huge data file to upload.

Ha! That is quite alright.

I am probably going to call it a night though. Going to go in to work early, the crop report today made trading retarded, so I am going to go catch up on paperwork.

Going to see if Mrs. jeffk is in a good mood, and listen to the two knuckleheads on CNN...[8|]

Feel free to stop in. This is a fantastic game. It is a good change of pace from the momumental task of AE..

I'm one of the least technically savvy guys out there to ask this of, Jeff. Alright, not as bad as AW1Steve (Steve: [;)]), but close. I would use MS Paint and reduce image size to fit. 200kb sucks for resolution, so I'd columnate the heck out of my image / crop it to size.

Hey guys, it does seem dead here now, but there are a lot of guys playing the game still. More action for the game over at http://www.theblitz.org/message_boards/forumdisplay.php?fid=8

Enjoy!!

Yeah Mike is right, not too much action going on here but there sure are players still playing this classic.
Love to see a new AAR though! [&o]

holy crap that first screen shot brought back memories! have to admit, i never could get used to the 3D sprites...think i used the nato symbol icons...never made it to the pacific module, but may have to fix that now that i've seen this...

it's been a while, but 10 turns doesn't seem like enough time to execute that wide left hook, especially if he's dug in to any extent...but, we shall see......go get em!
