New Game?

Hannibal: Rome and Carthage in the Second Punic War is a new and innovative turn-based strategy game that puts you in command of the Carthaginian military during a period of total war over land and sea with the young Roman Republic. With this military juggernaut of the ancient world at your disposal, you will vie for control over Italy, Carthage, Spain and the Mediterranean Sea using a combination of strategic political maneuvering and sheer tactical skill both on land and sea. Play consists of two layers; the first is a strategic layer where you must prudently steer your forces to the destruction of Rome’s army and the ultimate destruction of the Republic and city itself. At your disposal are a variety of unit types and historical commanders from which to form your armies. On the tactical scale, when meeting the enemy in battle, skilled leadership and a knack for war come into play as you use a simple but engaging battle system to best your opponents.

New Game?

Post by Drakkon »

I apologize if I am being pushy, but us loyal fans of HRC are anxiously awaiting any info on the new game currently under development by Forced March Games.
In fact, I'll go out on a limb and say that I'll post something next weekend. It won't be too extensive, but I'll post something. And, as always, thanks for the interest!

C'mon mercenarius, throw us a bone! After the unqualified success of HRC, I can't wait to see whats next.

EDIT: I guess I should mention that I just finished my 100th game.

You are not being pushy. [:)] And I'm sorry that I left you guys hanging a little bit. I'll talk to Erik Rutins again (when he gets back from vacation). He's very leery of putting out material too far in advance. But I'll see what he says now.

The plain fact is that I've had a couple of delays, particularly with artwork, and I am waiting to speak with Erik when he returns. There are a couple of things which I need to coordinate with Matrix before I put out any preview materials.
EDIT: I guess I should mention that I just finished my 100th game.

Wow! I really do appreciate your kind words about "Hannibal," and I'm glad you're getting your money's worth. I know that the development of the new game is dragging and my resolution for 2012 is to kick it into high gear.

Been at it a while, but have never played 100 games of anything. Hannibal forget it, but Steel Panthers might come close [;)]

I've been playing strategy games on the PC since they were first commercially available back in the late 70's, and this game is one of the 3 or 4 best I've played.

Haven't played it 100 times, but maybe 50 or so. Still loving it.

Can't wait to hear what the next installment is...I'm guessing Caesar in Gaul from the hint.

Alexander's Conquest of the Persian Empire should be Chapter III. ;-)

Nah, this game system is too good for little bite-sized campaigns -- let's go for broke: all of Europe in a Total War style sandbox campaign featuring dozens of factions and spanning centuries of history, with online multiplayer support.  Do it! [8D]

Smaller scenarios would be nice too. Something like the Spartacus War would work well, I think. [:)]

A grand campaign plus a combination of smaller campaigns (not necessarily about the same subject as the grand campaign) would be great.

Agreed -- I'd love to see multiple campaigns within a given timeframe.  You could easily come up with half a dozen Roman campaigns using the same map, just shift faction and unit dispositions (Spartacus, the Social War, Sulla, Crassus in the east, Caesar, the 2nd Triumirate, Antony vs. Octavian, etc.).  My only real problem with the current game is that you only have one campaign, played from one side, with no variation in starting dispositions.  As fantastic as the game system is -- and it's one of the best I've ever played -- this really does limit replayability.

I think this system would work well in other eras, such as Napoleon's 1813 campaign where you have an uber commander like Napoleon (Hannibal) who was basically undefeated that year until the last battle (like Hannibal) and was undone by his subordinates (like Hannibal) and where his opponents (after several early defeats) went to a Fabian-like strategy.  Just add some artillery, make the battles less bloody and have the tactical board over three "flanks" instead of one.  Voila!

Hmm, that's a very interesting idea Cleveland -- it never occurred to me, but I think you're right, with some modifications the system might work quite well for Napoleonic warfare, maybe even the American Civil War.  That's the beauty of the system -- simple and elegant but with real depth to it.

I really do hope the next game has a higher quality of graphics though -- while I don't mind the current look myself, I know several gamers who didn't purchase because of the map in particular (the counters I think are quite nice, but the map could be much more beautiful and high res). With a more polished presentation this game system could become a real indie hit, like we're seeing with Unity of Command.

I'm just wonderfully pleased that this gem of a game is getting a followup of some kind. Everyone who's played it has a kind word for it - I just hope the next one gets more attention.

God knows I've tried to fob it off on anyone I think might be marginally interested in wargames.

The game system is so much fun but the very limited content.....play 1 side in 1 scenario is really weak with this game sadly. I loved it and played it but just not enough meat to keep my attention for more than about a week. I'd love t see more content n the next one....system in place is fine

gdgrover and especially sitito, I'm sorry for the delay in responding. I don't have anything to announce right now. Recently, I've had to spend most of my time on other concerns but I expect to get back to working on the next game full time. Matrix has released quite a number of games recently, and I haven't been able to coordinate with Erik Rutins because of that.

I'll try to get at least a road map out to everyone as soon as I can. I'm sorry that I can't give you anything better right now.

Cool!

By the way, I was curious if you would be interested in an investor in your company?

Perhaps it might allow you to move to developing full-time if you aren't already.

If you'd like to discuss the possibility, give me a shout at: gdrover65@gmail.com

Cheers,

Glenn
