What's your fav Christmas movie

Post by JudgeDredd »

What's the one(s) that invoke happy memories?

Mine are (in order)
  • White Christmas (this one's just for me on Christmas Day - it reminds me of times with my dad who isn't around now)
  • Elf
  • National Lampoons Christmas Vacation
  • It's a Wonderful Life
  • A Christmas Story
  • Home Alone
  • Die Hard (I know - but it was the first movie my girlfriend (now wife) went to see in the cinema)

Anything by Laurel and Hardy. Love it when they show these (rarely nowadays) at Christmas. This too reminds me of Christmas's when dad was alive.

Then there's The Great Escape [&o] if you ignore James Coburn's hideous Aussie accent [X(]

I know, I know, not exactly a Christmas film but was a regular feature at Christmas time when I was younger [:)]

As for a proper Christmas film - has to be A Christmas Carol - any version will do inc Bill Murray's Scrooged - its just such a great story.

A Christmas Carol with Alistair Sim (the definitive version IMHO)
White Christmas! It takes a real man to admit this, but I love the dance routines.[:D]

Never heard of Christmas Story [&:]

That was on one of the movie channels the other day and my wife said we should watch it as it got 4 stars (out of 5)...but we watched Elf instead.

I'll keep my eye out for it...it'll be on again.

Christmas Carol Alister Sim...all the others I've seen haven't really gone down in movie greats for me personally. It's a Wonderful Life is kown as a classic but for me it's heavy on what I call American Shmalz and sentimentality. Quite like Miracle on 34th Street.

When I was a kid wihtout fail Wizard of Oz would be shown so that always reminded me of Xmas.

Some films in peoples lists I find hard to relate to Xmas though.

My favorite Christmas film is;

Alien vs. Predator

No Die Hard, no Christmas.
DH sucked because the good guys get killed & the cops win in the end. That sucks. [:'(]
Germany's unforgivable crime before the Second World War was her attempt to extricate her economy from the world's trading system and to create her own exchange mechanism which would deny world finance its opportunity to profit.

I can't pass this by.

Not in order but some I try and make it a point to watch:

1. White Christmas and Bells of St Marys and Holiday Inn. (Can't be Christmas without Bing).

2. Bell, Book and Candle.

3. Sleepless in Seattle

4. Christmas Carol (Alistair Simms version I think - old black and white I know). The original Miracle on 34th St.

5. It's a Wonderful Life

6. and something of a tradition for Christmas Eve last minute wrapping and assembling things - Scrouged

I should add Joyeux Noël (Merry Christmas) which concerns the WWI Christmas truce and remembering this film compels me to give a reread of Stanley Weintraub's "Silent Night-The Story of the World War I Christmas Truce"

There are a couple of movies that "make" the Christmas holiday for me (not in any order)
-Ivanhoe
-Breakfast club
-Drei Haselnüsse für Aschenbrödel (with the Norwegian dubbing)
-Rock'n Roll Wolf
-And ofc the various Disney cartoons
