So, it's March '42. The Germans are starting to slowly inch forward again, especially in the South where the lines are almost shattered, there is a solid line of German units from Leningrad to Stalino, and then this .....

I don't think it was a amphibious invasion, I didn't think Russia could do that in the Baltic.

Cant forget the island. I said in my AAR that Estonia was a bitch to secure. I never seen that before but I guess its a lesson...You left a port there.

Theres an open port, ships can travel at night and bring alot of stuff...

It looks like you never occupied those islands and left the ports in Soviet control. And the Soviet eventually decided to ship units over there and march into your rear.

Not an amphibious invasion.

1) There were troops on the island that went undetected?

2) The ai used a port to land more troops?

First you need to take open ports, its easy to overlook that one. You never air reconed the island, thus the build up, so the problem...

How interesting ! The Soviet AI building up lots of units on this island through the port they never lost control of and surprise! we're in your rear!

Don't know how strong are these units, but OKH must be in some form of crisis mode here [:)]

You have some major cleanup to do...

It's surprising to us testers as well. We've never seen the AI do this, mostly because we never left this island unoccupied in test games. I'm rather pleased the AI can take advantage of this sort of booboo.

Well, I am at 100% recon, so ALL of the units had to be shipped there. Odd that so many could be moved in a turn.

But, that's why I'm playing this game, to figure out all the rules.

BTW, I had occupied the port earlier in the game. I didn't realize that I had to garrison it as well.

You do not need to garrison the port, except to prevent amphibious invasions. If the area was indeed under your control, then I'm not sure what happened here. An amphibious invasion shouldn't have been possible, so I don't understand how the control flipped over. We may have a bug here.

Do you have any older saves? Would be nice if you could double check the control status in older saves.

Another possibility is that you did have control, but not of the entire area, and there was a unit hidden away in a corner of the island that your recon didn't detect, and then that unit marched back and took the port.

This must be either bug or mistake in the AI execution files!

Why? Because when you look at the date (3/19/1942) and the state of sea in the Gulf of Finland (frozen solid!) there is no way the Russians could move their ships through the sea.
Besides, The Gulf of Finland was the most heavily mined sea-area in the WWII, Russians could not, literally, get their ships over to Kurressaare. They could not even supply Hanko which they took over after Winter war.
