won't start

Frank Hunter's Campaigns on the Danube is an operational study of the campaigns along the Danube in 1805 and 1809. Campaigns on the Danube's system focuses on trying to present the player with the same sort of decisions placed on their historical counterparts; how to feed an army and move that army according to a plan, all the while trying to fight a campaign. There is also an option to allow players to play out the battles with miniatures and input the results.

won't start

The game doesn't start consistently. I get "not responding" in the Task Manager. Running XP. I also loaded it on my laptop, and same thing.

Even in compatibility with Windows 95, same problem. Won't run in any other compatibility.

You got it to install but it hangs?  Do you get an error message when it tries to load....

I have the same issue.

The game hangs at the first screen (just the picture, don't get any menus, etc.)

I tried running it in compatibility mode, but same result. Tried both patches, same result.

Help!

I'm pretty sure this is a Vista issue.

I tried installing it on another computer (running XP) and it works. However, it won't run on my Vista machine.

Yeah...the game isn't made for VISTA, it was hardly made for XP, you had to do a few things to get it going for that....

Any chance of a Vista compatibility update?

My guess is that Campaigns on the Danube isn't a huge seller, but a Vista update would be nice for those of us who've upgraded our Windows software in the years since we bought the game.

(I'd actually be willing to pay for an upgrade.)

Doubt it !!

This game has at least one "update" that could have been put in a patch over 2 years ago. Nothing has been done though.

N.B. Possible updates are :

1. Bridge siteing error corrections ( e.g. screen map shows a bridge, but it is on a different hexside on "AI's Map"; map shows a bridge but one does not exsist re "blowing up bridges" - Fords ?).

2. Minor OOB errors ( except for the Crisis on the Danube Scenario where errors are MAJOR ).

3. Several changes to the Scenario information re OOB and timescale periods.

If anyone is interested in the details here, please advise & I will post them.

The game has never been compiled on Windows 7 or Vista.  It was developed back in 2001-2002 on Windows 2000 but the Matrix version was compiled on XP.

I'm still on XP myself (although moving to Windows 7 soon I imagine) so have never compiled it for Vista unfortunately.

As discussed in a previous thread, it will run on Vista in compatibility mode.

Not fully in my experience, it won't. It still manages to collapse somewhere along the line and error messgaes appear throughout the parts that do run... *sigh*

It is a shame as I enjoyed the only game I was ever able to do PBEM with for a year or two w/a guy from Switzerland.  See your other message Harry for some other tings to try.

I agree with you. THE GAME DOES NOT WORK WITH XP!!!. [&:]

I just bought the game direct download version 2.2, so it should work without any problems, nor doing tricks for compatibility.

I think Matrix has not bothered to develop a good update, so I am disappointed with the purchase.

Matrix to work on this product and make it truly stable in XP as announced in its product page, making the update that resolves these problems. Otherwise I will be wary of buying more products from Matrix
