How good are they at wiping out bases
How good are they air too air

In simple answers:
1. SAIEW
2. Much less effective
3. SAIEW
At least this has been my experience with them.

thanks for educating this newbe

RE: 4E bombers in AE
I think the 4E bomber effectiveness has been toned down against moving TFs quite a bit, but they still hit unloading TFs nicely after gaining some exp.

RE: 4E bombers in AE
I assume fast TF will be less to hit than a slow AP TF
I was really wondering about BB and CV .
Does altitude come into this very much ?

Well, I could not get hits from 10 000 ft, but started to hit stationary TFs from 6000 ft.

Skip bombing, they are murderous.
House rule sort of murderous.
6 B17s vs CV Zuikau, 14 bomb hits. [X(]

3) not SAIEW. I have had several B17 go down vs zero in A2A at approx 15% of attacking force. In WITP they were pretty indestructible. [:D]

I have tried that with B-17s..and not gotten any hits. Instead, all bombers have gotten damaged usually.

Im surprised they went back to this from stock. In stock it was changed from this allowing every bomb in a bomber to hit long long ago so that bombers could only hit with 1 bomb because of the abuses that ensued. And frankly, it makes sense that only 1 would hit. Cant think of a single time in history where a level bomber scored multiple hits on a single target (maybe a dive bomber with multiple bombs like a Stuka). Certainly didnt happen often enough for it to be allowed in the game.
Edit: Another thing I always saw as a problem with stock is it checks each bomb to see if it hits, and if 1 hits then it hits and the rest are ignored. IMHO this is wrong. If the bomber is not on target (bomber releases here, ship avoids its aim point), then none of the bombs should even be checked. There should be a "bomber on target?" check first before the bomb resolution.

I would hate to see a B-17 try to do a skip bombing run [:D]

B-17s were the first skip bombers. Due to their lack of maneuverability they gave up the practice, but they were the ones that proved the concept.

Nates took on my B-17s over Northern Luzon, and I got this message in the combat replay window;

Also, its a reference to a Talking Heads song titled 'Once in a Lifetime'. That line word for word is in the main chorus.
And as you can see, its been adopted by the WiTP-AE community to describe a situation that has not changed between WiTP and AE.

Precisely. That is what should happen.
